I found the old flour factory interesting and I loved the architecture all around the city, but my favourite part was seeing the beautiful garden around the Mayor’s house. The Abby was gorgeous and the history about the glass windows was fascinating also Jane Austin’s house. Lol I’m just going to say I loved it all ☺️

And the jewel in the crown, the water meadows? When I lived in St Catherine's Road, Winchester I commuted daily to Twickenham, south London. An horrendous grind up and down the motorway. Nose to tail, there and back. On summer's evenings I'd get changed as soon as I got home and take a walk down to the water meadows, alongside the playing fields of Winchester College along the riverside. The stresses of the day would fall away. A pint at the Black Boy pub on the way home. Beyond happiness. I moved from there to Petersfield, down the A27. One of the most beautiful roads in England. Hampshire is a beautiful county. I miss it dearly.

I loved the water mill. I think it was ingenious of our ancestors to use a water wheel to drive the cogs that powered the grinding stones to grind flour. It sounds so rudimentary by today's technological standards, but I find it charming and the energy is free. That's a place where I could happily spend hours. Hopefully the village green will burst back to life after all manifestations of Covid can be beaten. Winchester looks like a great place and I was delighted by the old architecture. Such an awesome video. I hope you both had a fantastic St Pat's Day, the bits we (your audience) didn't get to see. Not meaning anything of a private nature.

Arhhhh lots of memories of all those places. We were booked for a weekend just before COVID but cancelled and finally went in October. We loved the fact that for an important historical city it’s very compact and you can get around everything quite easily. Talking of Wessex……. We have just finished the last season of The Last Kingdom on Netflix, not sure if you have seen it …. but one of the best tv series EVER! Not usually my thing but loved it 😍

NICE video! Thanks for showing us some of your home town. I love old buildings & unfortunately Oz is too new, except down at The Rocks near the Opera House, where the 1st settlement was established. They have a market down there every Sunday (I think that still happens). Thanks for showing me Jane Austen's house...PRIDE & PREJUDICE (which I need to read every year as I teach it, my fav classic novel anyway); NORTHANGER ABBEY; EMMA; SENSE & SENSIBILITY, PERSUASION & MANSFIELD PARK (the others are not as famous)....

Great glimpse of Winchester. My g, g, g, g grandfather's trial was convened at the Winchester Castle in 1814. He was sentenced to death, but fortunately received a pardon and was transported to New South Wales in 1815. Is the Winchester Castle in your video?
