For me, who is at the very beginning of my new exotic-inspired garden, this hardwork is an encouragement but also a piece of wisdom. Nature sometimes takes back what it gives...

Hi. Yes we can create these amazing gardens but we also need to be aware that in harsh winters unless we have the ability to protect certain plants there is a risk but for most the rewards outweighs it. Cheers.

This garden looks great. It really shows how the circular lawn area in a standard rectangle seems to be a great design as it adds so much depth. If it were me, I would take that central circular garden and do a trio of Trachycarpus and then layer with cannas and other plants like she currently has. I'm all about adding canopy. Either way this is a fantastic garden and I agree with you the structures they have included add so much.

Thank you. I always enjoy your comments they are always constructive. Height and privacy is definitely a key factor in tropical style gardens and is something that will come with time. I agree they have done a great job and I believe it will evolve to get better and better. Cheers.

Thank you, we do want to add some permanent hight in that circle, I'm still trying to decide what to do, I've used cannas and the Ensete so that I can easily lift them. Although a trio of trachycapus might be too much for now as I do want to keep some grass for my grandchildren. Thank you for your suggestion

I've definitely got the passion, unfortunately I have a horrid neighbour who loves to destroy my my plants as he grows his hedges that high, the weight of them when he cuts them purposely over my garden they snap my plants. 🪴🌱🌴

I think I might be near Diane by how she described the layers of sand and the December 22 temperatures. We lost our 4 tree ferns and every single agapanthus and cordyline in the garden. It’s wonderful to see what she’s achieved. Such exciting and exotic plants to enjoy.

@@dianewhitworth4953 Oh, so you’re at the top end of the Greensand ridge and I’m about halfway along it in Silsoe. Our soil is beautiful to dig on the top because it’s fine and sandy but then as you said, further down it’s solid yellow compacted sand. The cordyline have all started to grow and I have left just one tree fern in the ground. He was our first one bought 30 years ago but I’m afraid he’s 100% dead and will be dugout soon. I’ve been very cautious and have only bought 2 small replacements because they’re so expensive now ! My tropical garden is still a new venture of just 2 years and we’re loving it.

@@kateeveritt3292 ah that's such a shame to have lost one you'd had for so many years. I only left one cordyline in and it has started to regrow, but I took my big one out and replaced with a trachycarpus as I wanted it as the backbone of the garden. I still love them and they are so cheap, so I just bought some more and accept that I may loose them again. Before I bought the larger dicksonia Antarcticas, I had bought 3 small ones that I intended to place in front of the dead trunks, which I've left in pots and will bring them in to thr greenhouse for more protection, But I love these as small plants in thr pots at the moment. Good luck with your own tropical journey

Wonderful tour and garden. I would say Paulownia would work great there. I have one in even in a pot I just chop it every year and leave a couple of buds in the spring and it is about 8ft tall! It's no bother at all, I just need to water it often.

Thank you. A Paulownia is a great tree. I think an evergreen will work well too as it will give a little more protection throughout winter as well.

Hi. I agree. I’ve found from visiting lots of amazing private gardens the creators tend to see the bad bits before the good but that’s what pushes them to make such amazing gardens. I think she knows her garden is great it’s just that drive to make it better. Cheers.
