Hania is a jewel in the preciuos diadem that is Crete. I slept a couple of time in an hotel facing the Venitian harbor and I am very proud to say that I have friends living in Hania. It is a must-see for everybody visiting Crete.

I love Chania visited many times on our regular visits to the Kolymbari area. It's beautiful and atmospheric. The only minor downside were few of the taverna owners on the harbour front trying to divert you into their premises. We always ignored them in favour of the much better options in the lanes away from the front!

I fell in love with Chania the moment I got out of my taxi to my Airbnb the day I arrive. I loved the vibe and the charm of the city. It’s been a year since I last been to Chania and I left my heart there. I can’t wait to visit again next year.

I was in Chania years ago, landing without a place to stay. We lucked out big time with a great little hotel across from the lighthouse. Since it was the evening and the rooms hadn’t sold out we got a much lower rate than booking online beforehand (but did run the risk of not finding anything). Exploring the alleys at night had such a magical feel and we had amazing food at a tucked away place with a sunken dining floor. I wish I remembered the name since the food was outstanding. The servers didn’t speak English - and our Greek was minimal - but they hooked us up. Definitely recommend visiting!

Hi there, Gabriel! My oldest brother lived on Crete for 22 years. There used to be a small USAF Intel base about 15 miles east of Heraklion where he taught school. He learned to play the lyra and became somewhat known for being a foreigner who played the lyra. The base was closed about 25 years ago so they had to leave. I visited in '83 for a couple months and traveled all over. It's a wonderful island, for sure. One of my favorite places was Sitia at the far northeast tip. Hiking through the Gorge of Samaria was memorable also. The prices have gone up quite a bit, I see. Used to be much more reasonable, back in Drachma days. Someone mentioned that raki is the real drink of Crete. It is, for sure, but it can be rough. I recall the local wine being nice. Very much looking forward to your next reports, from Georgia? Btw, by brother lived in Turkey for a few years too. He said that Greeks have more fun at a funeral than Turks have at a wedding.

We have just returned from Chania, and loved it so much that on returning home I immediately booked it up again for 1st two weeks in October,19. The old town is so special, that I would encourage any travellers to put this place top of their list. We were so lucky to also see the resident Turtle that lives in the harbour, opposite the restaurants., Fantastic.!! We found a local beach, Nea Chora close be, and spent many hours just lazing and swimming in the sea, not bad for early October, and the temps were on average, 25c.

I have seen the turtle today! I was told she has been living there for 15 years. The fishermen keep feeding her every morning, because otherwise she'd swim out of the harbour and destroy fishermen's nets to get their fish.

I came here to watch this video because, well, my name is Canea. I am of Maori descent, in New Zealand. the name was given to my dad and myself, when my grandmother's father came back from war. He served in the Maori battalion, 28th, C company. I would love to visit my namesake town of chania, and pay my respects to those NZ men left behind.

I was in Chania in May 2017 and love it. My room was small, the streets were so narrow that I can see everything inside the room across from mine :) The harbor during sunset is a must see. It was Greek Easter in May, so there was a small parade, the churches was full of people but not chaotic. One place he didn't show was the central market, it sells everything, including food, it's worth a visit. All Greeks told me that Chania cuisine is special and everyone must try it during their visit.

Good job! The old town has so much to offer you from the Topanas and the Jewish Districts, Santrivani, Splantzia and Kasteli as well as a number of narrow streets and buildings of Venetian, Ottoman and Neoclassical architecture that are jaw-draping.

Gabriel I am from Chania. I love my town very much and miss it quite a bit. I am surprised you did not go to Gamvrousa or Elafoniso; two of the most spectacular beaches you will see not only in Greece but the entire world. The building where the gallery was is not originally a mosque. It started out as a synagogue and at some point should be restored to as such. Next time you visit try staying at Georgoupoli, Almirida to the east, or Agia Marina, Platanias to the west. The hotels will be of much higher quality and if you book a little earlier maybe even cheaper. Thank you for the video!!!

The good thing about Crete is that it's a big island and (due to the big offer) it has kept its prices in normal levels. Most of the Greek islands, the prices by now are completely absurd, for us at least, the Greeks. Which are salaries has been butchered. Thank you though, Gabriel, for showing to the world our beautiful country! Keep rolling 🙏✨

For food, visit the smaller villages in the countryside. You will eat good food, born and raised within 500 m from the restaurant, pay less and get and very personal experience. Try Frosinis garden for example. About 30 km west of Chania, to the left after the old airbase, then to the right and in the middle of nowhere. Great food. Try also Paliomylos Vlacheronitissa.
