A Tour Of Holyrood Palace - Plus my Sloe Gin Cocktail

In today's episode I wanted to give you a tour of Holyrood Palace - the official home of The Queen, here in Scotland. I'll also be sharing a delicious sloe gin cocktail that I think you will love.

The recipe for the Sloe Gin Cocktail:
1/2 ounces Gin
1/2 ounce Sloe Gin
1 teaspoon maraschino liqueur
3/4 ounce lemon juice
1/2 ounce berry syrup (recipe below)
Crushed Ice
Shake both gins, maraschino liqueur, lemon juice, and syrup with cubed ice until chilled. Strain into a glass filled with crushed ice. To garnish, spear the berries on a pick and lay across the rim of the glass.
To make the berry syrup use 1 cup of berries of your choosing (I used 1/2 cup of raspberries and 1/2 a cup of blackberries. Add to a saucepan with 2 cups of superfine sugar. Smash the berries into the sugar using the back of a spoon. Add 1 cup of water and put onto a low heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is dissolved. Do not let the syrup come to a boil otherwise you will lose the freshness of the berries. Strain the liquid through a sieve and let chill for at least 20 minutes. You can use what you need and store the rest in the freezer.

Holly, I’ve visited Edinburgh twice and want to share my favorite spots: tour of Holyrood House and the abbey ruins and gardens surrounding it, the Royal Botanical Garden, Edinburgh Castle, and St. Giles Cathedral (the mother church of the Presbyterian faith, it has incredible architectural details). Make reservations for evening meals. And if you have a spare day, take either a coach (bus) tour to Stirling, or just take the train out there to see the lovely small village and Stirling Castle. Enjoy your trip - I hope to return in a couple of years!

Just a day ago, I realized that I've seen the most beautiful, sometimes obscure places in the world, sitting here in front of a computer than I ever could, even with a trunk full of money and no crying babies, no flight delays or scary checkpoints (where it applies). The only place I truly want to see in person is Norway, specifically to fly over the fjords. Beyond that, I can't believe how content I have become by way of YT and the internet in general. (I think I have a bit of Scottish blood in my ancestry by the way). I'd like to learn a bit more about Scotland.

The tour of Holyrood Palace was fabulous, it seemed so much more intimate and realistic than typical shows. You chose so well a balance of the inside and outside, really lovely! What a yummy cocktail, I really must try it, so sad I won't be able to get the Queen's Sloe Gin, but oh well. Gift shops are truly dangerous, I agree, but you held back! And what a divine excuse it is to use the rooms!! So lovely all of them!! Gorgeous surroundings tapestry's fireplaces, ceilings! Why would anyone want a blank dull ceiling or these goofy popcorn ceilings the builders came up with for us poor folks! lol Of course can't have Michael Angelo's but maybe a painted cloud or two would suffice! lol Thank you so much for this tour! I went to scotland 3 years ago on a day trip. My dad and I flew there for a day from London. I didn't get a chance to go to Holyrood. It was the only place I didn't get a chance to see. I went with my dad and he had had enough of the touring (we went to Edinburgh Castle). I appreciate the tour! I feel fulfilled!

Scotland has a charm of its own! It’s really mesmerising to see highlands, serene Lochs , the twist and turns of the roads and deep blue Atlantic!
