I traveled all over Europe and actually missed the most beautiful part of it, which is in my home country - Croatia. For me personally it is Dalmatian islands, especially southern ones. I've been in St. Tropez, Nice, Cannes and all those places for me don't come close to the beauty of nature and small Mediterranean towns on Southern Dalmatian islands.

Great video Gabriel. Really enjoyed it. Croatia is expensive but it is mainly on the coast because of the tourism and because the season is so short (Jun -Sep). Food in Zagreb and other inland towns is much cheaper. Also, another thing is that you don’t have to tip in Croatia as much as we tip in US or Canada. I am Croatian, living in Canada for many years. I visited Croatia last year and my friends told me to just leave a small amount in cash for the waiter. They usually don’t share the tip with other staff (kitchen, hosts, etc.) so the tip can be smaller. If you pay by credit card do not leave a tip on the credit card because it will not go to the waiter/staff. So just leave a small amount in cash directly to waiter.

It depends where in the world you live i think. Compared to the UK Hvar old town was expensive, eg two coffees and two cakes were about £15. In Stari Grad a similar treat was less than £8. We found Korcula to be good value as was Porec and Trogir. Dubrovnic is an absolute legend but, again, because of it's heritage, is a little more expensive on most items but relatively cheap on others. The view from the old fortress on top of the mountain is never to be forgotten. We have always felt at home in Croatia, very little street crime anywhere, no beggars, friendly locals and some excellent beers !

Restaurants : Ask for the 'Gotvo Jela' , a small menu of daily dishes rather than the 'a la carte' menu. In Hvar Gabriel ate in the small but very highly rated restaurant that is the most expensive , after the 'Gariful' on the Riva, in the Town of Hvar. In Starigrad Gabriel also chose the most expensive restaurant, LOL.

I was hoping you would go through the village where my husband’s grandparents and the grandfather of my best friend came from, which is Lombarda. There are a lot of folks from there here in the San Francisco Bay Area; they even had a Lombarda Club at one time. The island looks so beautiful and idyllic that one can’t imagine why people would want to leave it! But, the older generation who left did so because of war, politics and for opportunities offered them in other countries. As for the Marco Polo story, Korcula and much of Croatia was part of Venice at one time, which means he could have been born in Korcula and still have been born in Venice! 🙃 Thank you for this lovely tour. I hope my husband and I make it there some day.

I've been watching your vids with a particular eye on the cost of day to day living expenses , I was aware of Croatia not being the cheapest of destination's especially in comparison to other countries in the region ,so I'm just wondering if there is much of a hostel / backpacking scene ? And also if it's a viable option to catch public transport ( buses ) etc on the islands ? Keep up the good work my man , really appreciate the time and effort that you go through to bring us these videos , and it definitely helps with my wanderlust ...
