Essence of Dawlish! I'm guessing for true realism, once every few years you could chuck a bucket of water over it and spend a few months not running trains while you repaired it.

You have a huge space. The trackwork looks great. Good luck with the rest.

Thanks - yes I am very lucky. I used Anyrail software to plan the track and get a design representative of the real railway in the 1930s

Looking great! Great theme for a layout. A lot of work ahead yet obviously, but I think it's going to be superb! Loving the First Great Western livery HST! The best clothes HST ever wore.
@peterloader53537 ай бұрын
agreed - the dynamic lines did look good. Nevertheless, good to return to the traditional Great Western green

I presume you haven’t yet added the signal box which sat in front of the goods shed . My grandfather used to collect parcels from that shed with his lorry . I use the station most days and you would hardly recognise it now !
@peterloader53537 ай бұрын
Wow - thanks for taking the time to message. The signal box is on my to do list - I was fortunate enough to see it when at Exeter University. I recall the narrow base - my scratch building skills are not great so will need to hack some kits

@peterloader53537 ай бұрын
I remember that kit - not enough space but it would have made things easier if I had modelled Teignmouth instead of Dawlish. I plan to use an old Hornby Dunster station that I had as a kid for Kingswear station building!

Newton Abbot looks a bit large
@kevinfowkes23278 ай бұрын
Large compared to now but looks about right for the station as it was prior to 1980s rationalisation. There was an extra platform, passing loop plus motorail loading bay on the up side, all now underneath the car park. On the down side of the line there were loops, sidings and the works/depot, again all gone now. I particularly like the detail at Aller Junction where the up branch line from Paignton crosses the down main towards Plymouth, exactly as it was up to 1986/87 when the semaphores were ripped out and the layout simplified.
@peterloader53537 ай бұрын
Kevin is right - my layout is based as was in the 1930s - with a couple of deliberate changes, in particular the Southern Railway linking up via the Moretonhampstead line via Crediton. Peter
