For the retiree, France offers an excellent quality of life and all the modern comforts you enjoy at home. And it’s more affordable than you think…if you know where to look. Inside our special report on France-you’ll find out why this diverse country is one of the best retirement havens in the world: intliving.com/francereport.

You said you have been there for 12 years, how much French do you have to know to be living there? I ask because I'm currently assessing where outside the US I might want to retire to and France is one of my choices.

In the video you said that property tax is $1700 per month. Is that accurate or is that for the year?

I heard that too. Be nice to get a reply to this question as 1700 a month is a deal breaker.

No, per year. I pay €680 in property tax per year for a 100m² apartment in Northwest France, near a city of 303,000 inhabitants.

At the beginning of the list of expenses she just said $1700. Then at the end when talking about monthly expenses, she said per month. Based on all I’ve read, it is probably per year.

Would love for you to advise us retirees on towns to live that would not require a car, with good public transportation. Thanks
@tuularampont9341

There are a lot of larger towns & cities where you wouldn’t need a car. For example, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Lyon, Montpellier, Nice, to name a few. A car is still needed in rural areas & villages. Hope that is helpful.

Hello Tuula. You don't know me but I know a little about you as your father in law, who is a friend of mine, told me about you this morning in a small town of north-east France. He told me he has an American daughter in law because I am of French-American culture. If you tell your father in law that my name is Patrick, he'll know who I am. I took a look at your International Living web page, and I saw that you do a beautiful job telling about your love for France. Congratulations and many Thanks.

Thank you for the video, we really enjoyed it. We are living in the 'other South of France' at the Mediterranean near the Pyrenees. Many retirees and empty-nesters move here as well. The prices are not as elevated as in the province and the climate is the same. My wife is American and I am Dutch and we really enjoy our life here.

Very lovely home in a beautiful area. Would love to see some apartments like the ones you mentioned seeking for retirement. I am retirement age and very curious if France is affordable or if should look to Spain and come to France for visits. Thank for all the informational videos! ❣

Your Property tax is high! 1700 euro/ mo.?, Kind of wipes out your savings on other things like your cell phone your water , utilities like Wi-Fi etc. that amount of prop tax would be on an approx. a 1. 6 mil dollar home in California! How much was your home? AIRBUS property taxes ever go up ?

How's the visa process for potential retirees from the U.S.? What are the majority of non-French expats retiring in the South of France?

Hi, there’s a video I did on the visa process here on the channel if you’d like to have a look. Many French retirees in the south, Americans in more international cities like Aix-en-Provence and St. Rémy de Provence.

Thank your for the tour...really nice and the ambiance of the neighborhood is si nice. One thing I cant imagine living without is a a dryer. Its mind boggling that the Europeans find a dryer such a luxury. I've live in Switzerland as a teenager and would love to end up living in Europe again soon. So sweet of you to show us around. Cheers 🥂
