A Tour of the Bronte Sisters House - Bronte Parsonage, Haworth West Yorkshire

This time we take a tour of the Bronte Sisters House, the Bronte Parsonage in Haworth, West Yorkshire. Last week we told you the life story of Emily Bronte and her sisters Anne and Charlotte. We also visited many of the places that the Bronte Sisters lived or frequented. This time we take an in-depth look at the Bronte Parsonage. The Home of the Bronte Sisters for almost all of their short lives.
We will take a room-by-room tour of the house, and look closely at many of the personal items that the Bronte Society has been able to keep or purchase to create the largest collection of Bronte artefacts in the world.

What a wonderful memory. In 1998, my mother, and I traveled from San Francisco to London. We took a side trip to York, which included a day-trip to Haworth. I well remember the home and the town.

Such an informative video full of information and background stories. Apart from Bramwell's struggle with drink, I get the impression that the Bronte home was a house full of love. I first read “Jane Eyre” when I was 10. It made such an impression on me that I soon read “Wuthering Heights”. The Brontë sisters, their family, friends, visits to other places and life experiences have fascinated me for years. While I’ve seen parts of the parsonage in Haworth in other films and videos your video is so much more expansive, and the narration added so much. Seeing the artifacts from the sisters and the rest of their family and friends’ lives (especially the apostles’ cupboard) was the best part of all. As I have ancestors who come from near Haworth I now plan to not only visit where they lived but to also go on pilgrimage to the Brontë parsonage and the surrounding moors. Thank you for bringing the sisters to life for me.😊

Hello Simon and Will. I really loved this video. This family has touched me more than I expected. I suppose it’s because I have two daughters of my own, 28 and 30 and I think how, in this day and age, life is really just beginning. The Bronte sisters accomplished so much in their short lives. Truly amazing. As for Bramwell I can’t help but feel sorry for him. It can’t have been easy being the only boy, he struggled and failed to find a career to suit him and I’m sure Patrick was the kind of man with expectations. The house itself was beautiful and it was great to see so many of the family’s belongings have been preserved. I loved the Fragments of a Dress display. For me it seemed to represent past and present, something once beautiful, complete and vibrant now hollow, empty, only a memory remains. This video was only 21:04 minutes and I’ve spent well over an hour here. So much to see and think about. I can’t thank you enough. These last two videos I will definitely be revisiting again. Take care of each other and have a great week. Btw I sometimes have trouble when leaving a comment. My comment gets submitted but I always scroll down and like other peoples comments and my comment is usually duplicated. If I go to delete one comment they both get deleted. I have just had to redo my entire comment. So if it’s duplicated again ignore it. I have no idea why this happens. For some strange reason it seems to be when I’m on UK channels. ❤

Incredible words Jill, lovely to hear your thoughts and passion for this subject. We have learnt so much we didn't know about their lives in making the videos and visiting the wonderful places. We are so lucky to still have them to explore. We do take it for granted these days ,the wonderful leaps in technology that every day keep us alive. The lives the Brontes lived back then was all to common, and when we head back to Haworth one last time later in the series we will touch on the mortality rate as it was shocking in that area.

Sometimes we can have a picture in our mind of them all writing together and things being all rosy, but they lived in difficult circumstances and didn’t always agree.

I look forward to the video of the church. On our visit here in 2015, we had the pleasure of meeting Joost, the clock winder, who invited us to climb the old staircase and wind the clock! A lifetime memory!!

Thank you for sharing this. Last time I visited Haworth, we were not even allowed to take pictures of the front of the parsonage, let alone pictures of the inside. The staff were super strict. As a teacher, I hated not being able to take pictures to show them to my pupils. So, THANK YOU!

Thank you for your detailed filming and narration. It's wonderful to see so many items have been returned to the home and I love the way they are displayed. I have studied historical costuming as a hobby, and am aware how few intact garments of this period still exist. Many people re-used fabric when styles changed, or cut up garments to make children's clothing, because they couldn't afford to buy new. It was good to see Charlotte enjoy some comforts paid for with proceeds from her writing. After learning about their lives, and reading their works, this was the final step in knowing what they were like. The hair jewelry really brought it home. I will likely watch this again, but also look forward to views of cheerful boats next week. Cheers!

As a trip to England to tour the house is rather pricey from America, I am soo grateful for this video! Everything about this was perfect! The music just right, your pleasant speaking voice and all the little details you pointed out. I can’t imagine cooking a dinner over a kitchen fireplace. A lot of work every day, especially without running water. We often view the period and their lives as romantic but it was actually far from it. So much work just to live and way too much tragedy. I’m glad the sisters were able to free themselves by using their vivid imaginations as an escape. Their brother coped otherwise…another tragedy. Well, long-winded but just wanted to say hello & give thanks. 4 well deserved stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😊

I once read that, in order to keep working and sustaining his family, Patrick Bronte was courageous enough to have an eye operation performed without any anaesthetic, as it wasn't available at the time. Simon and Will love the videos so sad about the loss of all the sisters, brother, wife, Aunt Bramwell. Simon I agree with you if the Bronte Sisters survived what literary treasures would be written. Beautiful on the Moors. Always loved Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall didn't read the books but always watched the movies.

Found your channel today. I've visited Haworth and the museum many times since the 60s. Great video tour of the museum 👍. Fortunately the museum gets plenty of visitors, so that does really help with the upkeep etc., and the extension at the rear was added means that more exhibits can be on display.
