"Christmas Carol" was published in December 1843, so in a much earlier period. It wasn't "based" on this late Victorian period.

i hate that time period, toilets weren't invented yet so every home had a cesspool, people would come in at night to empty it but as you can imagine, it will still leave an unfathomable stench throughout every household. if you go outside, there would be animal feces and human feces all over the streets even on church walls, anyone could empty their potty out from the balcony into the streets you were walking on
@nadiah36643 жыл бұрын
thats a myth, this was actually against the law even back in the medieval period. Not that it never happened, it probably did every once in a while, but you could get a hefty fine for doing it. And people were not stupid. They had to live in the city, so obviously they wanted that place as clean as possible, hence the laws forbidding it.
@TheSunIsMyDestroyer3 жыл бұрын
@@nadiah3664 Look up “The Great Stink” and tell me again if that’s a myth.
@nadiah36643 жыл бұрын
@@TheSunIsMyDestroyer I know about the great stink. The great stink WAS NOT about people dumping their potties outside of the window. It was about something else entirely. So maybe, if you are going to reference the big stink, you should inform yourself first, what it was actually about. So yeah, its a myth.
@TheSunIsMyDestroyer3 жыл бұрын
@@nadiah3664 Its not just about that but its a combination of all that, bottom line, its not a myth. Care to explain to me how different it was entirely? Lol
@nadiah36643 жыл бұрын
@@TheSunIsMyDestroyer The great stink was not a combination of both. It was about lack of canalisation and the fact, that everything was being dumpted into the river Thames, including the content of the potties. There were LAWS against dumping the potty contents onto the streets and penalties for doing so and most people didnt. Emptying the chamber pots was a morning chore, the potties were emptied into the river. As for the great stink, look up some reliable sources, that will explain it better than I. Either way, your comment shows ignorace, because you insist on your truth while being wrong all along. It seems to me you got your facts from some sensation seeking video on youtube. I have seen quite a few of those on the subject of the "great stink", a lot of them not really sticking to facts, because perpetuating a scandalous myth is so much more intersting and you gotta draw in the audience, right? Or have you actually read anything reliable on the subject? As in historicaly accurate?
@nasifali22354 жыл бұрын
Actually there was tons of pollution and things were just gross. Most town did not have sewer so they would throw there personal shit and piss out the window. Chemicals went right into the river and if there was a sewer system in went right into the lake or river which wavelengths drinking water. Road were made from dirt and were a muddy mess and then you had house shit all over the place. Back then you went to the hospital to die and thing like typhus fever ( which is a horrible death as your flesh rots) wiping half the population f the town in a single summer. The problem is all these channels and media that show us the old Britain, they only highlight the good part and not the dark history that the Victorian Europe had, where women were not safe on the streets at night, there used to be kidnapping, murdering drinking, gambling and things like those, and also most families lost over half their children from things like mumps, measles, yellow fever and other diseases we can now prevent or treat. For surgery you were lucky before you leg was chopped off while you were wide awake. Only about 30% of those who went into a hospital made it out. If those are good time you are sick. Yes things like food are worse tasting and we are ruining our environment but that does not have to be that way. We have technology that allows car run on water ( but the fossil fuel spend billions to keep government and cars to move in that direction. There is no reason to use fossil fuels. We have answer to most of our problems when back then they did not but we are to lazy or to corrupt to do the changes to protect this Earth and make things better for all. Even with farming there is no excuse to use poisonous pesticides and insecticide other then they are cheaper. Everyone of our problem in the world is due to man greed.
