It just occurred to me how freakin fortunate we are to have the choices and innovative designs we have in things like knives and firearms in America today. Like with knife designs, back in the 80s, our choices probably numbered in the thousands, but now it's got to be in the tens of thousands. Back then, I never would have imagined that there would ever be enough buyers in the market to justify the cost of design, r&d, and production of so many different models and flavors of individual models. It's like a perfect storm of fewer legal restrictions, the proliferation of cheaper, better manufacturing technology, the reach of the internet to a world-wide audience, all creating a huge, sustainable market that didn't exist just 40 years ago. Its a far cry from being limited to local stores that had maybe 20 different knives to choose from, most being minor variations on the same tired designs. We live in a golden age of stuff like this. I find it fascinating in an all too nerdy way...lol!
