Good stuff, Emily! I just got back from a 10 day trip to Scotland and packed very similarly. Two black bottoms, six pairing pieces, a black cardigan sweater, a black raincoat and rainboots. Accessorized with two scarves and simple jewelry. I wore a pair of black leggings, a black T, a black and white stripe sweater, a black quilted vest and my comfortable black slip-on shoes. The packed items fit nicely into a small carry-on roller. I used my personal under-the-seat bag as my purse but included a fold-up backpack for my day pack while on the go. Our weather was very cool with highs in the low 60's and daily rains. I was prepared but put together! Thank you and travel safely with your beautiful family.

Used the capsule wardrobe method when I went to CA for 4 weeks in March. The biggest challenge was that I had 1 dressier event to attend and I couldn't justify a pair of shoes for a 1 day thing. I also packed in a carry on and personal bag. No checked luggage. So while I regret not having those special shoes and wearing a pair I wore all the time, in the end it was probably for the best as I ended up being dropped off at the venue and setting the entire place up- tables and chairs for guests, food tables, food on serving trays, beverage area direction, blah, blah, blag, but heels on that floor might have been a real nuisance to getting that done in the hour I had before guests started showing up. Hope your trip was/is wonderful. Time with family is precious.

Love your videos. Not really relevant to capsule wardrobe selection, but relative to travel - I used to have to travel to visit in-laws in Ireland regularly. I kept several items there, like raincoats and boots I didn't have to travel with. Also, I was traveling with three kids. I ALWAYS split everyone's clothing up in to separate bags. That way everyone had at least two outfits in each bag. If a bag is lost, no one goes without a change of clothes until it is found, which can sometimes be days or not at all.

Great advice. Using your guidelines, I recently went to Brazil for two weeks to cover the International Uranium Film Festival. I packed in one carry-on bag, had everything from casual (screenings - tee shirts, cardigan, down vest) to formal (Speech I gave and awards ceremony - took a light weight silk/cut velvet kimono-style top layer), and everything worked with everything else. I looked great and felt confident about my clothes. Good stuff! And as a result of my exploits in Brazil, the film festival has now put me on staff and I'll be traveling with it around the US in 2024! Based on this tutorial, I'll have my capsule wardrobe selected and ready to go. Thanks for all your great tips and tricks!

LOVE this. I really like taking as little as possible when I travel, and find planning ahead is worth it. (I’m famous for it among my friends, and have gone a little too far…but there are sweaters and clothes in other countries. LOL LOL) It’s great to hear what other people do. Thank you for sharing - and safe travels.

I am far from a minimalist, but my style is minimal. I have been working towards a more minimal life style. I have never looked at it this way until now, but I am minimal when I travel. I also choose black for its ease (favorite color 😁). I thought I was just being a light packer.

Emily, this is my second time watching this! We actually went in May for 2 1/2 weeks to England… And I actually bought the monos check in bag and that was my favorite bag that we brought… We traveled around a lot so I had to pack and repack and it just was the easiest bag to pack. I hope this year I will be able to buy the carry-on bags for my husband and myself! Everybody, the monos bag is fabulous. And one great thing about it is that it is very lightweight so you can pack it with more things and you won’t hit the maximum weight as easily as with other heavier bags before even packing.

@@EmilyWheatley I mean barely...they are just slightly better than my chunky Brooks running shoes. I have grey Sketchers. These are the best I can do and still be able to walk around as a tourist. It really limits my clothing options and is quite boring!! Emily, Have you considered approaching TLC with a show idea? Women have been woefully lacking fashion guidance on tv since the ending of ‘What Not to Wear’. Here’s the thing, though… I don’t know if it’s really easy to do laundry on a trip. And you were case it’s a no-brainer, but if people aren’t going to stay at a place that has laundry… Not quite so much. For instance, my husband and I do not stay in Airbnb’s, and it could be quite pricey to do laundry in a hotel… I’m not talking about underwear, though, that is easy to do. But, I just think it’s really important to wear really good deodorant, and have some bleach or spot cleaner! That’s just my almost 60 years of living talking…😂❤
