I think I like this method I’m going on 4 back to back cruises starting late May so I have used this for packing, it’s Japan to Alaska, transatlantic, British and polar regions and Spain, France and Italy

Hi from Portland area. Be sure to bring a lightweight rain jacket! It’s all about layers here this time of year…not really that cold so light scarfs, not thick ones. No one wears heavy anything except in mid winter! Fall is lovely here, so enjoy. 😊

Oh yes, I have my packable Columbia all purpose rain jacket, lol! I actually lived in Portland for 25 years, my daughter still lives there so the trip is really about visiting her 😊

Love your videos! I usually use something similar but i take fewer layering pieces and fewer bottoms but more tops. The logic is that tops are the items most likely to get sweaty and also tgey take up less space than bottoms or layering pieces...

I only travel for Christmas week so my clothes are mostly Christmas l/s tee shirts with. seasonal theme. I’ve found I need at least 2 pairs of jeans plus a pair of knit pants for travel & Christmas Eve, & a dress for Christmas. I’m 81 and need to check my bag, which is no problem for me going & my daughter picks me up so she gets my bag. Thanks for all your videos, I love watching you.

Thank you, Christi! This method enlightened me to the fact that the colors I had chosen for an upcoming trip actually do not go together. The navy trousers are now black. This method is key if you suffer from decision fatigue, which I do. Love it.

I've seen the 3x3 before but not with the try-on. That was really helpful to see it's not as dull as it can look in the grid. Thank you for putting in the extra work! The other thing to point out is if I'm going to be wearing each shirt 3-4 times in two weeks, this option probably requires being able to wash them somewhere along the way.

Yes!! I usually try to make sure there is going to be some way to do laundry, whether its a washer and dryer in our airbnb, laundry facilities or service at the hotel or taking laundry detergent sheets and doing a little laundry in the sink at my accommodations. 😊

I always use a capsule wardrobe while travelling. 3 x 3 x 3 is actually 27 different outfits 😉 Just try it with 3 tops and 3 bottoms to find there are 9 outfits just there. Then add the third option for each of the nine (x2) outfits.

Interesting video! I am about to embark on a 3 week tour to Asia, whereby in each of the 3 countries the climate is quite different (ranging from very cold to mild, almost warm) which has made it difficult but obviously means layering is important. I decided on jewel tones, plus a bit of white, black and brown, including the following pieces, prioritising those that were either easy to wash/dry or didn't need such regular washing: 2 merino wool long sleeved dresses, 2 cotton&linen slip/pinafore dresses, 2 skorts, 1 pair of lightweight loose fit tencel trousers, 2 cardigans, 2 sweatshirts, 7 lightweight cashmere semi-sheer tops, 1 short sleeved body, 1 pair of black sneakers, 1 pair of black lightweight boots, 1 pair of colourful lace-up sturdier boots, 1 pair of brown warm shearling boots (I love shoes!), 2 belts, 2 scarves, 2 beanies, 1 ultra lightweight down jacket, 1 sheepskin waistcoat for layering over jacket on very cold days, 1 medium handbag/tote for out and about, 1 larger handbag/tote for carry-on. And I still have half a suitcase worth of space for bringing things home :)

Thank you! I would have to take a picture of my Suduko layout so that I can easily make the outfits. I like the no think method. As I get older, I find pics and printouts help me keep on track. Did the 54321 method with my 81 yr old Mom for a cruise. What a game changer. 😮

Thank you for showing this. I’ve watched a lot of “travel light” videos but this is a new concept to me. Once I’ve laid out my fav pieces in a 3 color story, the hardest part will be editing down to my fav 9 main pieces, shoes, & small bag. I may take a solid dress, which will count as a “bottom” when paired with different tops, jackets, and scarves. To make it fun, I may have a cup of tea and pretend I’m choosing things to try on in a fancy store for outfits I may buy! (Hmm… I may try to stick to 3 colors next time I’m shopping in a real store!) 😉

In theory, not counting the accessories, doesn't this actually make 27 outfits (3 x 3 x 3 = 27)? That's pretty awesome! And adding in your travel day outfit multiplies them even more! Well, for part of the 27, you will have 3 bottoms only, 3 tops, 3 layering pieces, which, you could do, but is not advised in public.😊

LOVE this, so ingenious. You looked great in every outfit. Re the Molly Ringwald look, have you tried tucking the white tee inside the skirt? Visually, from my POV the white dominates the rest of the outfit. The boots and socks with the skirt look great.

I thought about tucking, but the weight of the shirt vs the weight of the skirt makes it look a little weird. I think if the skirt were a heavier material that would totally work!

You could try to tuck the t-shirt into the bottom of your bra to shorten it and lengthen the look of your legs, or put the belt on top and then pull the t-shirt from the top to bag over the skirt without adding bulk, if that helps 😊

I really need this..I've tried the others..BUT, I am carrying a sleep sheet, and a lot of medical stuff! I joke that I will have more "comfort" stuff than clothes! I'm leaving in 4 weeks for a month in Italy (staying in an AirBnb with host in her home) and she has a washer...and all the drying racks..so...WHY NOT???? At 73, I find that I really have to adjust a LOT compared to how I used to travel.....! Let's put it this way: my mini water pic may be more important than 15 outfits!!😀

Question: I have been considering purchasing the silk skirt you are sharing in this video. However, I'm working a bit ahead for a Northern Europe cruise in early March. Is the silk skirt too lightweight for this cold time of year?

I have one of the silk shirts and I love it but I would say yes, you’ll likely be cold unless you’re planning to wear something like leggings underneath.

The silk is pretty lightweight, so unless you wore some heavier tights or even leggings underneath, I think you might get chilly outdoors. However, if you're just going to wear it for going to dinner and other events on the cruise that are indoor, I think it would be just fine in that climate controlled situation. 😊
