my dad was a nyc, pc,conrail conductor for 43 years on the old ft. wayne div!. streator,kankakee, to elkhart. Miss nyc, and big blue! Whistles sound great remind me of him. could ride wit hin the day. Streator turn, and east local. Priceless memories i will always have with me.

You know, Conrail did try to bid on the BNSF back in 1998, this was because both railroads shared a part of Corwith yard in Chicago

As a Conrail fan, I envy post conrail catches, and now that NS has only 2 left, It's nearly impossible! Conrail was an amazing company and railroad, overcoming incredible odds and saving the Northeast/Midwest rail markets! It is also a great example of a government program that actually worked! Sad to see them go, but at least we still have the heritage unit!

It’s kinda cool that CN bought off a lot of Conrails C40-8W’s instead of scrapping them. I’ve seen a lot of CN Ex Conrail units with their original horns and style just repainted. I’ve also seen some of the Blue Devils. The blue devils also have the same horns and paints. R.I.P Conrail 1976-1999.

@@s_rv. not true, CN has some Ex-Conrail Dash-8s, 2455-2466, only 12 of them 2 were scrapped as of today but the rest still run all the time, 2460 being the only one PTC equipped so it is allowed to lead unlike the other 9. All but 3, so that makes 6 are still in Conrail blue but they are patched by CN.

COOL! i've never seen a real conrail switcher before! i had a lionel set when i was a kid ,it had a 8111 dt&i switcher engine (,i still have the engine and green gondola and flatbed, thats all thats left,,, :(
