Also, thanks for using the theme that will always be this show's best. I started watching in 1978 and Nancy was still a huge part of the show, interacting with Chris, the Stewarts (David and Ellen), Bob, Lisa, Kim, John. This show was still so perfect (at that point already 22 years old), right on up to around 2000. At that point the show completely changed focus and introduced way too many "youths" and the show has floundered for the last decade. I will miss it forever...

Lovely tribute! Helen gave me a full page of the NEW YORK TIMES from 1965. advertising the show. It was when ATWT was number 1. It has a picture of Chris & Nancy. She had 2 copies, and was kind enough to give me one, that both she & Don signed for me. A prized possession even after all these years!

What a lovely tribute. It brought tears to my eyes. I grew up watching Helen Wagner. She WAS Nancy Hughes. I felt as if I'd lost a member of my family when I heard of her passing. A great lady.

This 54 year old show ruled the airwaves (No. 1 in Nielsen ratings) from 1959-1978, with more magnificent years even after that.. What set this soap apart from ALL others from inception (1956) until around 2000 was that it amazingly held on to so many characters that had been on the show forever, AND the same actors were still playing them. When you watched in say 1965, and you were still watching in 1996, the show was still so familiar -- still looked and felt like ATWT.

This theme song was the best. Lovely tribute to a lovely lady. This was way better than the crappy memorial they gave her on the show.

A remarkable actress who created this complex character as much or more than the scriptwriters did. Never lost her beauty or her focus.

This wonderful woman, she will be so missed. I guess I am glad she didn't have to witness the end of what she created. Though, I do wish she could have had the last words of the last episode. Rest in peace, dear Helen /Nancy. This world, will never turn in quite the same way!

This was such a beautiful tribute to watch. What I loved was the picture at 1:27 that featured Four Generations of Hughes Men. William "Pa" Hughes, Chris Huges, Bob Hughes and young Tom Hughes Father of Adam, Casey, Daniel, and An-Li.

A very lovely tribute! Since this was first posted while Ms. Wagner was still alive, I hope she got a chance to see it - am sure she would have enjoyed it. Hopefully, somehow in heaven, she's able to know of it and appreciate it.

This is absolutely gorgeous and had me really misty. Helen Wagner, and the "old school" people of ATWT are part of my childhood memories, and I cherish them.

@ThorneAstor It was from the Christmas 2000 episode. Bob, Kim, Lisa, Chris and Penny gathered at the Lakeview for Christmas. Nancy and Bob recalled one Christmas in the mid 1960s.

Am sure if Helen Wagner was still living when the show went off the air she would have - that was the game plan - sadly she passed away 5 1/2 months prior. RIP Helen.
@ThorneAstor14 жыл бұрын
I wish the show appreciated her as much. Sad she's hardly ever on. Hopefully she's in the final episode though. Wonderful tribute. Where did you get the clip that aired at 0:47?

The only other person who played a Soap Character the Longest other than Helen Wagner was Bill Roache who has been playing Ken Barlow on The UK's Coronation Street beginning in 1960. Sadly enough he had to leave the show for a year when he was falsely accused of Rape back in 1967. He would later be Decorated by Queen Elizabeth who are big Fans of The Soaps.

@mrob75 OMG you said it about blaming the writers. I also blame the EPs as well. It always cracked me up whenever I read a post anywhere where someone was hating CBS or Proctor & Gamble for the cancellation. I NEVER blamed any of those people. I blamed the people that were actually creating the episodes for putting on a show that couldn't hold my ( and apparently anyone's) interest for more than 30 seconds. The last decade was beyond horrible to try and watch and GL's last years were worse.

This "As the World Turns"/Nancy Hughes montage you have uploaded here was originally on a classic soap opera website that went offline many years ago now. Do you remember the name of that website?
@gymnastix8 жыл бұрын
Never mind. I remember the site's name now, was called "WoST (World of Soap Themes)." At one time that was virtually the only place online one could find many classic soap opera kinescopes/videos, unless one purchased VHS tapes from some TV collector sites.

Can anyone name all the characters at 1:29? I can see on the bottom row Ellen, Penny, Grandpa, Nancy, and Chris, and the upper left I believe is Don. And on the upper right I see Lisa with Tom and then Bob, but who are the others?
@Nunofurdambiznez2 жыл бұрын
Over to the left, is the original Dan Stewart.. not sure who the gentleman next to him is, though. There's a woman right in the middle.. that's Lisa's mother, the original Alma Miller.

Notice how all of those stupid modern writers of ATWT (and other soaps) let go of the classic story lines that contained such depth and viewers could easily associate with the characters problems as well as joys. Now the soaps deal with sensationalized vulgar plots using young actors/actresses that can't hold a candle to the veteran actors! I blame today's writers for letting Guiding Light and As The World Turns go.

stupid atwt writers, they couldve have made the last years more about the real personas of the show like Nancy, but NO instead they put her to the side, they couldve used her and got alot of fans to watch. Who wouldnt watch an episode with Nancy, Barbara, Bob, Tom, Margo, Kim, Lisa & Lucinda stealing the show, Barbara and Holden are the only senior castmembers that seem to get airtime
