I met Richard and his wife in 2016 and they were so sweet and charming. I was fortunate to see him live three times since ELO came back, including the big comeback in Hyde Park in 2014, and though he wasn't playing as much as the old days he was an integral part of this new line up. His contribution to ELO is not to be underestimated and those albums wouldn't be as good without him.

Thank you for this, Pete! Richard Tandy is a rather unsung keyboard-hero. But his effortless, always tasty playing suits ELOs music so well and is IMO one of the cornerstones of their sound & success. Rest in peace 💔

Richard Tandy's synthesizer playing on "When Time Stood Still" is second to none. The song truly showcases his overall talent on that instrument. Not to forget his keyboard and piano playing. I will miss him. But all of the ELO albums and songs still remain from his first appearance with ELO on ELO 2.

I am totally shocked 😞 Thank you Rich for a wonderful ELO journey. I will never never forget your outstanding pianoplay on Confusion. A sound, a melody with the CS 80......You was always the cherry on the cake. Thank you Pete for your nice obituary.

Richard was kind of the Neil Peart of the keyboard world. He was always surrounded by an electronic world of wizardry and played them with such elegance. This is a loss that’s almost prophetic. Prayers for his family and Jeff and co.

Richard played the harpsicord on The Move's 1969 UK number one single "Blackberry Way". Richard was never credited with being a member of The Move although he appeared with them on television recordings, as did Bill Hunt. Richard played bass guitar and keyboards with the late 1960's Birmingham psychedelic outfit The Uglys.

RIP to Richard Tandy. Phenomenal Keyboardist and how about that great Vocoder work? Also 4 album run between 74 to 77 is some of the best Pop Prog Art Rock ever made in my opinion. Thank you for the countless hours of great music you have given me and fans all around the world. 🎹🎹🎶🎶

Indeed. The Vocorder was very much part of the signature sound and Richard used it from quite early on.... Pioneering even? I guess only the band will really know how much the band actually contributed to overall sound and the compositions but uniquely, for a band member, Richard is credited for orchestral arrangements beside Lou Clark and Jeff himself. Definitely a serious acknowledgement of his contribution. And the fact that he's also playing guitar on many of the records really shows that he was a superb all around musician.

I'm a big fan of the Time album and Richard is the dominant force on it. So much gorgeous synth layers on that album from him and Jeff. ELO was the first band I got into in the 1970's. R. I. P. Richard Tandy, go play some honky tonky piano for that Wild West Hero in the sky.

I also felt that Mr. Tandy’s keyboards were essential to ELO’s classic sound. In fact, they were just as important as Bev Bevan’s drums. Take one of them away and it’s not the same ELO. God Bless and God Speed, Mr. Tandy.

ELO wouldn’t have had such great success without Richard Tandy. He was the only original member of ELO, apart from Jeff Lynne. I have been to two ELO concerts, unfortunately with a replacement for Richard, due to his ill health. The world of music is not the same without this very talented man. RIP

I believe that the "Mellotron" credit on the albums was in regards to his live rig. There isn't any Mellotron on the albums. An interesting thing is that Richard played a synth on a Tom Petty song called Two Gunslingers from Into The Great Wide Open. It was an OBX, I believe.
