A tribute to the Eumig Mark 610D Dual gauge 8mm projector

In this video i take you on a journey to explore how and why a Eumig filmprojector from the 600 series work. it may help you to understand what is going on inside one of these projectors. this video applies to all models made by eumig in the 600 range. it also applies for Bolex 18-3 and 18-6 projectors and Revue 2000 series as they all were made by Eumig.

I have a Eumig S820 since September 2022 it is a Super-8 sound projector for magnetic sound tracks and it has a really good sound quality.

As the cooling fan is directly off the motor that slow motion system ensures that the cooling is constant whatever the frame rate. Slowing the motor speed for lower frame rates would decrease the cooling too.

This is my favorite too. However, I'm getting more jitter on older films than I recall. In reverse they are very smooth. I loosened the pressure nut on the take-up reel so it isn't pulling the film. What else to look at? Gate doesn't seem very adjustable... What about adding pressure to the gate?

You could check if the tension on the film from the supply reel is okay. If this is too high the film will also jitter

Nice Video! I have a 610 D that won't project light in forward mode but does project light when threading the film. Any troubleshooting tips on how to get it working?

Might be a misaligned cam on the back of the main switch. Because the lamp shouldn’t be on when in threading mode. Only the pilot lamp

Thats a good question. I have never take this type of lens apart. But if you have a moldy lens it may be better to find a good one. The lenses are plastic so i think its difficult to get the moldy layer off without damaging the lenses. And it’s the anti reflecting coatings that take up the mold and without those coating the lens will never perform as intended. Glass lenses could be coated again but that is an expensive endeavor. So in short, looking for another better lens is the best option

I purchased my 610D for $50nzd which I think was a bargain. Its so much nicer to run than my Magnon 800 ZRS which has eaten a few of my old films unfortunately.

@@sutherlandgalleries3717 the lenses between 600 serie projectors are interchangeable and there are nicer lenses for it like the lens from the mark 610D Lux. I think you also could take a lens from an 800 series projector but im not sure. It also depends on how the focus mechanism works. Most lenses work with both type of focus mechanism and have a notch or a groove on either side. And yes it is a much nicer projector then a Magnon. Those are very cheap japanese things and a eumig is way better quality

Hello Erik, I just found the same projector in my grandparents memories box. When I try to project my films Both films do not rotate but the mechanic is working (lights and every buttons, and I have the same sound has you) Do you know why they don't rotate? Im trying to replace the bent to my 607d and i am having such a and time getting to it. I followed the repair manual but cannot get the motor out to reach the claw

You do not remove the motor when you replace the belt. It is finnicky to get the belt around the big pully. Remove the lamp for better acces. I have a small hook to pull the belt around it from the lampside. When its looped correct on the big pully Then make sure the shutter blades are in a position where they don’t block acces to the motor pully.

A good projector for digitization, but the more advanced model Eumig-624 does not allow you to expand the frame window due to design features.

Well the 624 is not really more advanced. Just the same projector in a modern jacket. The features and mechanics are identical

Hi Erik, Got my Eumig Mk610D up and running the other day with a new bulb. I ran a 30min film through and noticed it got really hot. Put another film in and after about 10mins it started to burn the film. Is this common? or whould there be something wrong with my machine. I did notice that at full speed there are no filters over the lamp. The filters only engage at the slower speeds. Thanks for your help!

The filters only engages in the lower speeds. Is it the right lamp? Maybe too much power? You need a 100 watt max lamp. Bigger means more heat and it will kill the transformer in the long run to

@@eriksnel6461 Its the 100w 12v MR16 dichroic 2" reflector. Meant to be the correct one but maybe not? Seems very hot after about 40mins of use.

@@sutherlandgalleries3717 that is the wrong lamp, you need indeed a 12v 100 watt lamp, type EFP with a GZ6,35 fitting. Your lamp has a piece of glass in front of the bulb and a facetted reflector. An efp lamp has a smooth reflector and no extra piece of glass.

Hello, no i don’t. 24fps is only usefull with sound films and this projector cannot play sound so there is no point in doing so .

I have 6 eumig projectors of different models. The main problem in some of these is transformer and motor heat up even it can not be touched. Why it is so?

That’s not okay. My guess is that the mains voltage is set wrong, or the motor has too much friction and is drawing too much amps. Having the wrong lamp can also cause heating of the transformer. So if the projector needs a 100 watt bulb you cannot use a different wattage
