I have to say from growing up wishing I had an IROC!! Then watching my little brother (who is the youngest and got what ever he wanted) pull out in front of some people in his 87 IROC and getting T-Boned!!! God oh how I wanted to "KICK HIS ASS!!!!" I have to admit I am proud to say that I have a beautiful IROC sitting in my garage in pieces to be rebuilt and one day I will play just as hard and fast as these people in this video...

I've got an '87 IROC with the 305 TPI and 700R4, but that engine is like my own mystery motor. Previous owners put a solid cam in it and a BBK throttle body, but that's all we know. It revs quick, shifts hard, and has no problem taking the turns. It's been lowered an inch all the way around with some stiffer sway bars. That's done by the previous owners too. We had a problem with excess heat buildup for our taste (220 was the average temp) so we installed one toggle switch under the dash to kick on one of the two electric fans and no problem now. If it gets above 160 flip the switch and you can idle all day and not top 190. For all the mystery in this 305, it really feels and sounds like every 5.7 I've ever seen run. I'd dare say it's even a notch above a stock 5.7, but this is an opinion strictly from the seat of the pants. I haven't encountered a 5.7 to go up against yet since having this car as it's only been two months.

The L69 High Output 5.0-liter 5-speed was the top dog... I owned two of them back in the '90s, and still have one of the 5.0 liter H.O dash badges from one of them, lol... only the 5-speed models could actually be ordered with 3.42 and 3.73 gears, "from the factory". Amazing car, and I believe will be one of the more collectable 3rd Gens in the near future. Motor Trend managed to squeeze 14.8 from a 1984 L69 5-speed... a great time for mid-'80s era car, as that's what the 1987 5.7 L98 cars ran.

Great vid. I had a 90 Formula 350. The 350 Irocs and Formula 350's with the dual catalyst exhuasts were awesome factory cars. Never had a problem with a 5.0 Mustang in that car! Thing that stinks is that there was so few people who bought those cars, where as all Mustangs GT's had 5.0 225HP, so the Camaro and Firebird had a bad street racing reputation...but that made it so much more fun, because they always wanted a race! I had so much fun in the early 90's with my friends with Mustangs.

I'm not allowed to drive any of those cars except one of the exlorers due to their 4WD, because in the winter we get bad freezing rain which makes the roads slicker than greased deer shit.... My parent's didn't get me a car, they pay for my insurance. I saved every penny I made, from when I turned 12 so that I could have a nice car because I wanted to attract more ladies ;) And every dime after the 1800 for the car, went toward parts. My dad and I combined have put almost 7g into that car to fix all kinds of problems that kept comming up, from a fault MAFS, replacing the radiator, replacing the ENTIRE fuel system, and soo much more.

The L69-optioned H.O cars were awesome cars for their time. If you ordered the 5-speed model you could actually order G92 with 3.73 gears from the "factory"... and 4-wheel disc brakes, the L69 cars were ahead of their time and could run high 14 second 1/4 mile times which was damn good for the mid-'80s. Be proud of it man, lol.

My parents bought new and owned 3rd gen Camaros. At that time the had good horse power and torque . The transmission and gearing did not matchup as well as the the Ford 5.0s at that time. Camaros and Firebirds had the better looking cars but they had there hands full on the street and tracks against 5.0s. I would love to have a t-top 91 Z28 one day . But for now I will just be content with my Notch back 5.0 and my 1st generation 69 Camaro SS convertible. "Blessed with the best of both eras. ✔

And before you make any assumptions of the state of my car and myself, kid if you yourself only owned one car as you say you do, i own more than ONE car, the Most I have OWNED! was three, and I have all the paperwork to prove i have owned three! I pay for the gas, insurance, repairs/parts, college, and things I own. Like you admit, my family wasn't wealthy to give me what i wanted, but look here, having a job since 16 years old and 4 years later of saving and budgeting, I can do things slowly.

When I saw Smokey And The Bandit in '77, I fell in love with the Trans Am! But when Pontiac made the "Knight Rider" in '82, I stopped liking T/A's and got into Camaros. When the Iroc Z28 came out in '85, they were THE cars to have! That is until 1987: The first year for the Mustang GT 5.0.... The car that EVERYBODY wanted! Sorry GM guys but it's true :-)

No, the car came with a completely shot suspension, no windshield, the exhaust had a huge leak, it was driving on a donut, with the wrong wheels for that car year as well as the tail lights. The trim on the rear hatch window was old and looked terrible, so I took a brush and hand painted it. I smoke cigarettes, so of course I have an air freshener on the mirror and one attached to the center vents. The instrument panel and cracked glass, the dash pad was old and cracked....
