I had the similar sample pack from Tamnavulin when in Sweden this week. Very light and simple. All 5 was too similar. Glad I did the sample pack instead of full bottles. Seems like Tomintoul was more different…

Good catch Vin! Had some Tomintoul's on a tasting last year - as you say all were Ok but like you i like higher apv's.

If it helps: tempranillo is the main grape variety used in Rioja (but could be from another part of Spain if not using the region name).

Great video. FYI - Amarone is a red wine not a fortified wine.

Not complex and a higher ABV would be better. This is a scotch I usually pass on. Terrific video and thoughts Vin!! I try not to be a scotch snob!! Lol!! I am an Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig nut!! Have an awesome weekend!! 🙂

Do enjoy these Saturday sample vids Vin, including technical issues 👍😁. No retakes, no editing and honest opinions. No one is doing this sort of thing. Nice one Vin. Slàinte 🥃

🤣 well I will admit to some brief editing where I cut the eventual outtake from the main block haha

It seems Tomintoul's marketing department has been working overtime coming up with expressions and wordy tasting notes. Maderia is almost always a good finish in my experience, but these still seem like guard whiskies and no more. Thanks, Vin.

Probably too many releases 😅 imagine the what stock they have knocking around

For me it seems like these are the copies more/less of Glencadam series but compare to Glencadam, which are superb, Tomintoul are generic and mediocre as most of their expressions are too. Its wee bit strange because both Distillery are own by the same ADD group so in my opinion distilate plays main role. I love Glencadam expressions but when it comes to Tomintoul i stay with Old Balantruan. Cheers Vin for this honest presentation 😁🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️

They are a bit of an enigma. But I guess they have to lean into the whole gentle dram thing

Cinder toffee = Cadburys Crunchie ;) Tempranillo and Amarone are both red wines, Amarone strong but not fortified . Tomintoul, not something I ever buy to be fair.
