USS Saratoga CV-60, May 1989-Feb 1994, I was there, my 1st ship, my 1st deployment was Desert Shield/Storm and went through the Suez Canal 6 times. That was when I was young and was looking to the future.... then I lost 21 of my brothers. December 20, 1990, I still think of that night, that could have been My fate, but I could never get off because of the long lines. Rest well, my brothers...Brent and Anthony, I never knew you would become such a part of my life and remember you every day!

Was on the Saratoga from 1974 to 1975. She was in the yards at Norfolk having just returned from Viet Nam. 1 1 lovely 6wk tour to Guantanomo Bay and then 9 mo med cruise. Saw my door to 3MMR. It was repainted and more presentable. We had a pic of the devil with a pitch fork and flames . Man was it hot down there too. Spent almost 2 yrs. down in the pit. Lot of good friends in 3MMR with MM2 Leo Shaw not with us any more. He was a good friend.

My Dad had two tours in the Mediterranean and was on the Saratoga, he was a fighter pilot. His favorite thing to do was land on the carrier at night, he said it was like landing a postage stamp in the middle of the ocean. Boy did he love to fly! I mentioned once how dangerous it must be to land on a carrier ( and I was talking about when it was light out) And his response was " no it's not really that dangerous because all the guys on the flight deck make sure I'm safe, " I've been on the Saratoga and I remember it so well even though it was a long long time ago, I remember the smells and the sounds and we were treated like royalty. It's sad to know she's been retired. I miss you papa ( CDR L..D.Tennison) 02/04/1928-05/15/2015)

Thanks for the memories! I was on the Sara 1972-75. Was in CR Division on the 03 level under the forward cats. The forward mess decks were never utilized the whole time I was aboard. It was a long ass walk to the aft mess decks.

We walked the same spaces that's for sure! I was an EM3 in E Div.( Saratoga power & light) thank you guys for posting this, and thanks for your service, shipmates!

Remember the alpha strike when there was one E-2 in the hangar bay and NO planes on the roof? Hard to believe I just watched a video of the Sara when I was aboard. I didn't see me. LOL I was in VAQ-132. I did see our Prowlers on the roof and in the hangar and I saw our pod cage. I've traveled that ladder well by the TV station many times. I made the '92 Yugoslavia cruise, too. Thank you so much. That was a seriously nice trek down memory lane.

All that buzzing is from the Radar radiating on everyone. AN/SPS-49 rotating on the top of the island. Ships radiator looking thing is the 48 fire control 3D radar.. We used to take florescent bulbs up there to light up from the power of it to freak fokes out watching from the O11 level

@@bulldozer7656 We did that with one of those little tubes out of the rack. We held one up in the Prowler's nose with that little search radar transmitting and it was bright enough to get the flight deck chief chewing off everything we wanted to sit on later. Whew. Gotta love sea stories. This one time, in Naples…

Another V-1 Rep here and accounted for. This is Jones (AJ) I was in Ele-Ops, Fly 2 & 3. Hope you guys are doing great these days. Thanks for posting the video. Memories..... didn't know it then, but those were days. A video of the F-35 going to sea lead to the G. Ford, lead to one of the Super Sara being sold and towed to the scrap yard, and this one popped up on the list. It hurt my heart to see this grey lady being towed to Texas to go under the knife. I thought for sure her or the Forrestal would become a floating Museum. Looks like all of the Forrestal class carriers will be recycled. SMH As long as we are alive, she is still alive too. Take care Shipmates!
