This greaser/rebel scene peaked around 1995-1998. Then being a rap loving "gangsta" became the new in thing and the scene died out. My older brother was part of the scene and got me into the greaser/rebel style when I was 12. Also, it's certainly a forgotten scene. I entered high school in 2000 and was the only greaser/rebel type. The other students would call me "That 50's Kid".

This was a Clip of fox undercover, talking about House music party crews of the 90s..The rebels of then were not the same as greasers. Although there was greaser gangs, but the LA house music party scene was composed of House music rebels (not greasers) , Groovers, breakers, pop lockers, and freestylers..I myself was part of a party crew, and greasers were rarely in the party crew scene... We also had what we called Water Clicks...by late 1999 the hardhouse music party scene was dying out, and by early 2000s it was completely different...miss those days.. Good times!
@BullyofTrolls5 жыл бұрын
Every rebel crew seem to have had a few actual hardcore Greasers in their clicks that were all about the 50s style or some that were hybrid "rockabilly" cats.
@hoodlumrebel89963 жыл бұрын
The wanderers had a bunch of greasers in the early to mid 90s and after that clip they became the first actually greaser gang. Getting stop all the time by cops and getting into rumbles with greasers and party crews. This was all happening in the OC in Cali.

This rebel/greaser look lasted in Southern California up until 2004. It started around 1993 in Los Angeles. Although it was at its prime from 1995-1999. They were primarily Hispanics with few whites and blacks in their party crews. And to a lesser extent Indians and Asians. They listened to 80's flashbacks, 80's Spanish rock, 60's rock, 50-60's do-wop, 90's alternative rock, and deep house music. The house parties from that era were fun and, at times, dangerous. Part of growing up -- I guess. This "rebel" style still exists in some fashion, or form. The new style is called cholobilly. Cholo + rockabilly = cholobilly. There are still traditional bikers, greasers, and rockabillies. Not to mention hipsters trying to mimic elements of the aforementioned groups.
@skullsouljah28365 жыл бұрын

Great video. If you are looking for info on greaser gangs of the 50s I would suggest 2 books. Rumble by Harlan Ellison also newer title is Web Of The City, same book but different title. Ellison actually joined a gang in the red hook area of NY to get info for his book. The other is Vampires, Dragons, and Egyptian Kings by Erich C Schneider. Both are good reads.

Greasers are cool. Most old school greasers remind me a lot of the Suicidals in the 80s, SoCal skaters, punks and graffiti artists who had a cholo style but were punks at heart. They also started gangs, but never really fought anyone except for other punks. Interesting. You should talk about punk rock in one of your videos.

Exactly what New York Greaser said. Learn all that you can from greasers around you if you can, read articles, watch videos and other shit like that.
