And then he went to France to create and install their electrical grid.

The whole world has prospered by Black inventors of the America's. Not only did we build this country we have also made the world a better place and still we get no respect🤨

In 1881, Joseph Swan of Newcastle upon Tyne had already opened a factor in Benwell making lightbulbs with carbon filaments. It is hard to claim you invented something when a factory has been open for a year making your 'invention'
@KateYourke2 жыл бұрын
His patent was for an improved process for making carbon filaments which allowed them to burn far longer than existing products. He also patented a more efficient process for manufacturing the improved filaments, allowing for the mass production of a more durable light bulb. His processes were novel enough to be awarded patents, therefore they are his inventions.

@@KateYourke SO you invent something by making it last longer? Of course, Edison then moved onto using tungsten.

Innovations can be considered inventions if they are novel and non-obvious, and processes can be patented, making them inventions. Do you object to anyone being called an inventor if their work is only one part of a process or a device? You'd be arguing with a lot of people. Or do you think Lewis Latimer in particular does not deserve recognition?

@@KateYourke of course he deserves recognition, provided people realise the first street lit by electric light in the world was in my home town - Newcastle upon Tyne Newcastle is also the home of Earl Grey, who invented tea.

Ok, not to diminish that achievement, but then your beef might be with Edison, or Maxim? Lewis Latimer literally wrote the first book on electric light, Incandescent Electric Lighting (1890) and he supervised the installation of electric lights all around London -as the son of fugitive slaves with an elementary school education, a black man who was founding member of Edison's pioneers! And he was a painter, a poet and a musician. But I learned something, now I'll go look up Joseph Swan...

Without this So called Black man, we wouldn’t have the light bulb
