The Wall is about a British kid whose father was killed in WW2, and the songs in order tell the story of his childhood, being a mama's boy, ostracized in school for being imaginative and nonconforming, growing up to be a rock star, touring the United States, missing his mom, but feeling free from her at the same time, cheating on his wife who is also cheating on him, being so doped that he can't perform for his gig, so his doctor gives him different medicines that enable him to perform, he ends up losing touch with reality, withdraws inside himself, and builds a wall around himself so he won't have to deal with the things he just can't deal with anymore, so anybody who wants to interact with him personally is out of luck.

So, when this album came out in 1979,I was in college. Our psych professor brought in his stereo from home and we listened and analyzed the entire album for a couple weeks. It is the story of a guy who's father was killed in war and raised by his over protective mother. It follows his decent into madness and internment in a psych ward. The album is also a continuous loop !! The ending of side 4 was cut off and spliced onto the intro to the first song, so the downfall to madness can begin at any point in life. Heavy stuff. Like so many others, you really should take the time and hear it full through without interruption.

This song in the movie "Pink Floyd's The Wall" is absolutely terrifying. The main body of the song follows a gang of Pink's fascist followers (known as "Hammers") as they wreak havoc on innocent citizens. It switches back and forth between that and watching one of his "concerts", which are really just Nuremberg-style Hitlerian fascist gatherings, where the "fans" stamp their feet while doing complicated hand gestures that end in a straight-armed salute. (Notice the chant "Hammer! Hammer!" at the end of the song. They're not cheering the band - they're psyching themselves up for mayhem after the show.) It's horrifying, a thousand times more NOW than it was in 1980 when this came out. Watch the film some time - it'll freeze your blood cold.

Pink Floyd takes you to a psychedelic sphere without drugs. Love to see y'all do a live stream with Pink Floyd's "Animals" Entire album is a must❤

You should do the live version off of the pulse album just for the light show. This is the song that they closed the show with.

Of course, they have more popular songs, but this is my all-time favorite by them. Anytime you want to review a song by Pink Floyd, please feel free. If you haven't reviewed Learning to Fly, put it in the rotation. Also, you should watch the live video of this song. It's a mind blower.

The Wall is an album that must be listened in its entirety. It’s literally like a movie for your ear holes.

If I may, a suggestion. You really need to check PF out live. My suggestion...the song "Sorrow" live from the Pulse concert 1994. In my humble opinion, one of their best live performances ever. The laser light show in conjunction with the line up is unmatched. Please, please give this track your consideration. Ray

Saw this flick in 1982 when it was released in the U.A. Theater, no one was there except myself and 5 friends. We were 16 years old, all ate mushrooms, then sat in different rows....they cranked the volume. Best movie I've ever seen!

This was the last song in the encore for concerts on the Pulse tour; definitely check that version out! Even though PF did partake of drugs to various degrees at various times, this album is really about withdrawing into yourself so far that you start treating the outside world as full of enemies to suppress. It's more complicated than that, but you get the gist!

It was the last song in both The Division Bell and Momentary Lapse of Reason tours when I saw them. A lot of people had already left when they came back on stage when I saw them at Wembley, the people still leaving suddenly reversed themselves.

@@paulqueripel3493 Yes, I saw them on A Momentary Lapse of Reason tour, and I think The Delicate Sound of Thunder is a musically superior performance to Pulse, but I love the whole of Pulse as a show more. Peace.

Great Reaction and Feedback on this song....I feel like y'all should really consider reacting to the entire album of 'The Wall' at some point. This is one of those albums that is definitely worth a full listen.

You two said that you wanted to see Pink Floyd live, but you will not react to the Pulse concert. It's by far the greatest live concert ever, and "Comfortable Numb" has the greatest guitar solo ever. Do not close your eyes (the light show is unbelievable), and don't interrupt David's solo. It does my old heart good to see youngsters discover the music I've enjoyed for 55+ years. Keep up the good work.
