Fun fact about how scott mentioned all the cats being nice at 5:29, in most animal shelters there's a volunteer position called "Cat Socializer" where you come in before the shelter opens to basically just play with the cats and pet em, to get them in the mood to be with people. I worked this position in the ARLGP in Westbrook, Maine for about 2 years in high school!

Hey Scott, thanks for making this video! As somebody who works at an animal shelter, it's a pretty demanding job and it's a revolving door of animals coming in and getting adopted, so I really appreciate you promoting adoption. And if you like animals but can't adopt, we ALWAYS need more volunteers, and most shelters have times where people can go in and play, read, or just spend time with the animals to help them socialize.

I always recommend senior dogs. They are typically more chill and often get overlooked for puppies. Also you don't have to commit to 10 to 15 years of a dog. I got a 10 year old pug who was obese and blind and he and I enjoyed 3 great years with him. Meanwhile my spouse got a chihuahua/beagle puppy next and that thing has been the bane of my existence and I have to deal with this goblin for the next decade... It is so dumb, hyper, and loud. I have scars on my legs from it jumping and clawing when excited. More than anything though... cats. I have had a cat for about a decade now and she has literally just sat around the house, came over for pets occasionally, and maybe scratched up like 1 old used couch. 10/10 would recommend a house cat.

Adopted my Aeris from a shelter, and then maybe months later, it was found out that shelter was putting "unwanted" animals down :( So glad I got my Aeris and didn't chicken out when we found out she was sick with a respiratory infection. It's been 2 years now, and she's such a positive change in my life, couldn't live without her ❤
