Wonderful video. I stayed at the same campsite just outside Inverness when I rode the NC500 last Sept. I took a different route North to Lairg in order to miss some of the A9. JOG was pretty busy and misty when I was there so I couldn't do the obligatory 'by the post' photo instead I got a few 'been there' pics and moved on to Dunnet Head. I camped at the hostel in Tounge, but there was no view the day I was there, nor the next as the weather was being very Scottish. Really looking forward to the rest of your ride.
@ClassicRides2 жыл бұрын
I’m sure you had great trip though, despite the weather. I got lucky with the signpost as the whole place was pretty empty when I got there, though a tour bus pulled up seconds after I started to push the bike off. I also took a detour to Lairg, but from Durness, so I didn’t quite do the NC500 in it’s entirety.
@neilmackinnon33712 жыл бұрын
@@ClassicRides I had an amazing trip thanks. As the weather prevented spectacular (or any other) views when I left Tongue, I took the wonderful A836 to Lairg and turned right to pick the NC back up at Ledmore Junction by which time the weather had brightened a lot. I still ended up in the clouds at the top of Bealach na Ba, but for me that is one of the pleasures of Scotland.

Thanks, I'll have to have a watch of your trip. We did it in summer in a car and roads were horrendous, especially the pass with people taking campers over it, which was a big part of the reason why I decided to go a bit earlier in the year on the bike, even then though I was surprised at how quiet it actually was.
@tojj292 жыл бұрын
@@ClassicRides It was crazy with campers when we went. The biggest problem seems to be they rent them to anyone, they get out of their tiny little peugeot 107 and get in a 6 Berth camper! There was a massive group of old Yamaha RD250/350's we passed on the hairpins too👌

I’ve been on dual sports and adventure bikes the last few years. I can’t handle a tall bike anymore (I’m 74) so I’ve been looking that the Triumph T120, Royal Enfield 650 and Kawasaki W800. I think they would be fun to travel on plus they’re very low.
@ClassicRides Жыл бұрын

@greggferns32782 жыл бұрын
I think going up the east coast and down the west,as you did,is the better way to travel the NC500.I went with two mates ,four years ago,and we went the opposite route.Having ridden all around these routes in the past but never stringing them together,the east coast then central southward is slightly less interesting than returning via the west coast.That being said, Pitlochry and Perthshire is one of Scotland's most scenic areas and one of my favourite go to places on a bike.
@ClassicRides2 жыл бұрын
I think if you're doing the NC500 specifically, then east to west is way to go as the scenery gets more and more spectacular as you go. Having said that, there's nothing wrong with the east, it's just not as epic as the west 😁

Would love to ride in a place with wide open spaces like that. Where I live, it is heavily wooded. While many people think that is a good thing, the downside is that you might not see animals coming until they dart out in front you on the road (especially deer). I've had more than a few close calls that way. In the terrain on this video, you should be able to see an animal coming a mile away.
@ClassicRides2 жыл бұрын
I can understand that, for the short while I lived near the New Forest in England, large animals appearing in the road, seemingly out of nowhere was always a risk. Open space is much more relaxing to ride in 😁

Seems like motone? Wondering what u used. Well done, geat inpiration for my T120 as it is under constant modifiction
@ClassicRides2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Maarten, yes you've identified them correctly, the front and rear mudguards are Motone, as are the indicators. The front indicators are mounted to a relocation bracket also by Motone. The rear indicators are a bit more complicated as I've used a pair of shock mount brackets from Motone, but I've mounted them to a screw hole in the bottom part of the grab rail. Because I removed the top part of the grab rail, on the bottom part you are left with two holes on each side where the top rail screws in. So in one hole I attached the indicator bracket, and in the other I put a luggage lug that helps with attaching bags to the seat.
