I saw from some comments you changed the gameplay from story to focused start in part.2 which is fine, the biggest thing though if you want to focus on the story but still enjoy battles is to just unequip the timely accessories. They make the combat easier but without them you get to experience the full range of combat on your own no matter the game difficulty.

haha, yes! I switched it to "action mode" starting with episode 2 of the playthrough. I've also seen yalls suggestions to turn off motion blur, to turn on the character names in the subtitles, to remove the rings, and to try playing the game using performance mode on the PS5. I record the gameplay well in advance and a few more episodes will be published without most of these suggestions however, I promise I'll make a note to implement these changes once I record the footage from approximately part 6 of the playthrough and onward!!! thank you all so much for understanding

@@Kastaclysm Performance mode doesn't make a big difference and I thought it was fine without it, it mainly applies in the battles but give it a go and see how you feel. Also a lot of the side quests are quite boring in this game so don't feel the need to do them all (I know you will anyway just like I did!) - just be warned! Aside from that though the main story is an awesome experience, the surrounding stuff is a bit meh, but the highs of the main quest are some of the best I've had in games. You will love it! Also, side note, I used to work in game development and I really appreciate you focusing on the details, you've even made me appreciate art in games more (I'm a game designer not an artist!). And how you appreciate the work that goes into the little things in games - like you mentioned the text, and yes I was one of the people who also worked on text/localisation/menus in games and it's a whole thing that no one thinks about... until it's done badly! So thank you! Looking forward to this playthrough!

To add, there is literally no different in the actual game difficulty (creature power, etc) between Story and Adventure focused. The only difference is that in Story mode, the Timely Accessories start off equipped. You also might get one additional timely accessory if I remember correctly. Even in Adventure you start with some of the accessories but just not equipped.

As a person who has never played a FF game, and STILL has not, you hit the nail on the head with saying this game is movie-level with visuals, writing, and acting. I saw snippets of this game on Anna's channel and was so intrigued that I went and found the full cutscene movie and the story and the characters have had chokehold on me ever since. It is an an absolute masterpiece!! This section in particular I am AGAIN reminded of how incredible of an actor Logan Hannan is (as if Plague Tale wasn't enough!). The conversation on the steps with Clive and then his reactions at the end there when everything went wrong... SO GOOD. This game is just brimming with amazing performances. Since I don't own a gaming PC, PS5, or Switch I don't know when or if I'll ever get to play the game, thanks for letting me live vicariously through you, Kasta! 😊 I love how you go all in, fully immersed just like I would.

Awesome surprise to find while scrolling. Glad you're enjoying the game! There's lots of references to past FF games in this one, as you expected. The Victory Fanfare is a series staple. Fun fact about the Morbol, probably been mentioned already, but it's a classic Final Fantasy monster. It's name is usually translated as Malboro, which is derived from Marlboro, the joke being that cigarettes give you the Bad Breath that's synonymous with the creature. Nerd trivia, woot.

Also one thing I meant to say but forgot to add lol - this final fantasy is one huge love letter to final fantasy of the past - that’s why the party members are little pixelated characters. In a lot of ways, FFXVI is a great game to play when new or almost-new to the series because so many of the common elements of the FF - enemies like morbols/malboros, helpful creatures like chocobos, various items and gear and so forth - are given such interesting treatment. Honestly, encountering a morbol for the first time like this would've blown my mind. Not that the ones I ran into in FFIV back in 1991 weren't extremely intimidating, but this has considerably more weight and impact.

They failed to appreciate how graphic of this game is effectively majestic, and focused more on low importance details just for the sake of critic, like frame drop to 40. Guess that drop frame to 18 with Zelda wasn't even a problem with that poor graphic... off course it drops in certain scenes, i mean look at how many details there are, yes for sure it took YEARS to put so many of them. Oh boy, it's time for more Maggy FF adventures. Let's go! 0:04 If there's one thing you can consistently count on in the FF franchise it's the music 01:09 "It's gonna be really hard for me not to pull similarities." That's OK. I think every FF fan goes through this process when they start their second FF when they only have one reference point. Once you've finished 3 titles you'll have more of a grasp on the range of what FF is and can be. 08:16 First Sonon, now Clive?! Maggy has a type 12:31 "Even the grandpas are looking pretty good" GILF fetish unlocked 27:04 "I don't know if I love that. I mean, it's giving you the visual representation of when to dodge but I feel like it should be hmm..." As others have said since you chose story-focused mode it automatically equips the Timely accessories. In my opinion I would advise against equipping any of those, it'll make the game trivially easy for you. 28:29 "I think we saw him kind of do that, right. The dash to avoid the boulder." Always impressed by your first-time perceptiveness! 32:21 "Tun tun tun. Is it similar? It's a similar tone? They just wanted to add to it? Maybe that tone's consistent in all the Final Fantasies?" Correct, that's the Final Fantasy victory fanfare. Each entry gives its own flair to it but it's a track that's been present since the first Final Fantasy (it used to play after every battle up until X). In XVI it's been arranged in the style of a Gregorian chant, playing after boss battles 55:05 "Aw, Jill reminds me of Tifa." haha that won't be the last time you'll say that 58:28 "Your girl loves a good story. Love cutscenes". Same (except not a girl). As for other peoples' opinions it's best to play the game yourself, and form your own opinion through your playthrough. For me every FF is worth playing, and an adventure to experience. 1:15:41 "It's actually kind of cute. I feel like in Final Fantasy a lot of the love interests... they always know each other when they were kids too. Which has this like playful, innocent vibe to it. It's really sweet." That's just coincidental on your part haha, you happen to select two that have them

Look forward to this playthrough! To truly understand abilities read DETAILS with “Triangle” on the ABILITIES menu. You’ll learn how upgrades enhance and how to counter to reduce ability cooldowns, etc. The STARS are not levels, it is ratings for ATTACK vs STAGGER damage. For bigger foes and bosses you want to initially focus on stagger. When staggered, increase the DAMAGE MULTIPLIER with high stagger actions (max 1.5x) and then follow up with high damage actions. 1:40:53 useful tip is locking must-have abilities occasionally resetting AP to play around and find what works for you in the moment, you don’t have to commit when AP is limited which will be a while

This is an absolutely *incredible* journey. Final Fantasy XVI has some of the greatest moments I've ever witnessed in games. This is coming from someone who has been gaming since the original Nintendo. It does have some slight flaws. But when this game wants to go off, it goes beyond anything else. Also, I just started the video so I'm not sure if you took off the accessories Story mode equips you with. However, the game is fairly easy anyway. No need for the "story" focused accessories they give you. Story mode is meant for people who never play action games. Especially if you've played something like Dark Souls in the past. You should definitely try taking those off. The accessories give you auto-combos (meaning you are just pressing one button for all attacks instead of manually using skills in battle.) It also slows down time and shows when you need to dodge instead of allowing you to do it yourself. Wish it was more clear on that before picking story mode difficulty.

Can't wait for more of this! I actually didn't like this game when I played it, but I love watching playthroughs of it. I think most of the dislike around this game comes from how action-gamey this one is compared to the other ones being more RPG's. There's a huge part of the fanbase (myself included to an extent) that for a while have not like the action direction Final Fantasy has been going in lately and this is the furthest departure from the rest of the series in both theme and gameplay. That being said, even though I didn't like it when I played it, I still loved the story so I'm glad you are loving it because I love watching other people play it!

There are lots of tropes that cross FF games. Certain enemy types, musical themes, character names (specifically Cid, though you haven’t met the FF7 Cid yet). Also as you have noticed, Summons, Chocobos, and moogles. Also not a spoiler here, but when you get the sidequest markers, do not sleep on any of them that have a “+” in the bubble. They generally unlock quality of life improvements.

Welcome to the next chapter of FF Maggie! So excited to see you undertake this journey. One big thing I'd recommend as a learning from both my playthough as well as watching streamers is in regards to the "active time lore" During all the cutscenes you can hold down the touchpad on the controller to get any relavent details and backstory that might be available. It's a really nice feature to keep any details about groups and locations fresh in your brain. But one thing I personally didn't feel was well explained is that you don't need to do it every time as the lore automatically gets added to the in game repository of knowledge as well. Many players, including myself for a bit, were checking it constantly to ensure they didn't miss any details, almost to the detriment of the flow of the story being delivered. So definitely use it whenever you are like "who is this person, or what is this place" but don't feel like it's something you need to remember to do like how Assess was in FF7 Remake.

Excited to see your playthrough! I don't know anyone else (including myself) who'd appreciate every little detail as well as you do so I'm sure it'll be great. My one recording tip for this game after personal experience, don't stress too much about the audio variance. The loud get REALLY loud on occasion (which sometimes bypasses your settings), but it's probably more preferable to use the quiet sections as your "base" to prevent excessive hair-pulling in editing hah.

in my opinion this game is an absolute master piece and this is my favorite intro to any game, i've beaten this game twice already and i'm currently on my third playthrough of it and all i can say is i love the cinematic scenes in this game. I know there are people out there complaining and hating on the game because there are too many cinematic scenes and the game is too easy but i'm a firm believer that Final Fantasy games are not supposed to be hard, i've played part 1, part2/4 (most people know it as 4 but it was 2 back in my day) 7 remake and this one and i don't think i died more than 20 times in any of them so in my opinion these games aren't meant to be hard to play, it's all about the story with Final Fantasy i've never watched any of your videos before but i definitely enjoyed watching this one and look forward to watching the next one you post, and trust me the combat can seem like it is going to be overwhelming but it really isn't, it's actually really simple to do even when more and more things get added to it

9:04 Wyvern (wi-vern?) super flashback for me. It's also one of the early dragon monsters in Final Fantasy IV. I stopped tracking the FF world after FFXII but I'll see this goes! You have a really pleasant aura with your gameplays.

I'm really liking FF16 so far. My favorite part was the mission between Sir Wade, Sir Tyler, and Clive.

Kasta, as a lifelong FF fan, and as an enthusiastic enjoyer of your playthroughs, I strongly urge you to consider FFX as your next game in the series. It's an older title and the combat might throw you off a little, but it's also an embodiment of what makes FF so good.

Compare away! Who cares what other people think. I compare other FF’s all the time, especially the story.

It's good to know that FF7 Remake and Rebirth are made by a team at Square Enix with many veterans of the Final Fantasy license with very well-known names in the industry like Tetsuya Nomura (director and character design) who made the original FF7 with Yoshinori Kitase. FF16 is one of the few post FF7 FFs where those guys didn't work out, but the guys behind this game are the guys behind FF14 (like producer Naoki Yoshida), an MMORPG that saved Square Enix financially and the highest grossing MMORPG in the world. We can see a lot of artistic similarities in many FF like between FF7, FF8, FF10, FF13, FF15 because they all have things like Nomura's creative influence in design, world, characters, tactical gameplay, etc. and people have a picture of the license with the works of them. So FF16 that doesn't have them feels very different from what people think they'll see and play in FF for that reason there are very different people who worked on it.

World building and characters in the game are excellent. It might be my favorite, it’s hard to choose. You will see why it is controversial as you progress. It has elements that are some of the best in all of FF and it also becomes world class in some aspects. However, other aspects are down right archaic and undercooked. It makes for a jarring experience. It depends on what you personally prefer. This is my GOTY, and I think you will love it too.

I also like how they made every character strikingly gorgeous in this game. All of them.
