That's what Red Coin Troll levels usually do. They make it easy to keydeath, but then it's impossible to die at one of the CPs, except when you keydeath. And then that CP gives you the reserve key.

First time the P-switch activates, making the blocks below him coins. The row immediately above them is the hidden blocks. On the second attempt the P-switch doesn't activate, so he remains level with the hidden blocks and can't touch them.

If things are going well (on a troll level) its probably on purpose. That kind of thing is a Murphy Law, something that is so consistent that you plan on it happening. One that happens to me on a regular basis is that if you are riding a bike and wait till you get to where you need to cross before crossing a street there will be traffic making you wait.

If you did not respawn at CP2 (i.e. you got there by coins) you go to the top of the flag. If you got there by respawning at CP2, you have to go to the bottom of the flag pole due to the state of the switch blocks.
