You're about to discover a true hidden gem in Rotterdam Netherlands! Every city in the Netherlands has hidden gems just waiting to be discovered! Some are waiting to be discovered and some just want to fly under the radar as happy as can be and want to stay hidden. Tammy and I are on a quest to scour the Netherlands to find the places that one might just walk by and not even know how special that place really is. Everything from secondhand thrift stores to small breweries that are set out of the way that are actually better than the big ones or a piece of moving art that thousands of people walk by everyday and don't even know it's there! As expats living in the Netherlands we have found so many hidden places that the locals have told us we need to try...because nobody knows better than a local!

Towels need at least 10 washes before they become usable at all. Depending on the thickness. 😂

@@gert-janvanderlee5307 I learned that the hard way. Bought myself a pink Hawaiian shirt for a party when I was young ones and didn't wash it. My skin broke out allover for almost a week, having to apply extremely smelly cream to get rid of it. Never again.... lesson learned.

@@Paul_C After 10 washes they are already starting to wear down but I do agree old towels dry off better than using new towels despite them having been thoroughly washed. Using fabric softener makes them even worse when you try to dry yourself off.

Of course you wash the sheets first, because they stink like a textile factory. And preferably with a fresh-smelling fabric softener. I'm confinced Tammy thinks the same!

Hidden gem: Louwman's Automuseum in The Hague. You'll find James Bond's Aston Martin, Churchill's car, an Elvis Cadillac, Le Mans winning cars, F1 cars, the Maharadja's Swan car, and some of the most unique historic cars from the very beginning of the automobile in a very well done and well stocked museum. Definitely deserves more attention.

We also have an Oldtimers antique auto show in my town of Goes in Zeeland in August. These cars are in pristine condition, which are on display in the square before they all ride together through the province. It's fun to hop in your own car and track them, which we've done several years.

Sheets always have starch in it and other chemicals to make them look good in the package. So ALWAYS wash them before use. Nice to hear that you are moving to a smaller town and gonna experience the true Netherlands. Personally, Dutch don't use brokers really but maybe it is different for expats, not having access to social housing. I would have moved to the South where the food is much more elaborate (Bourgondisch) and life is a little more laid back, being surrounded by a lot more nature and farmland. If I can give you 1 tip for a new video (being from Den Bosch myself), is to go to the "Zwanenbroedershuis" which I myself only found out about in my 20's having lived there from birth. It is a bit like the "knights of the round table" and an active society (even the Kings and Queens are members). It has so much history and they basically were founded to protect and fund the St. Jan Cathedral for centuries.

Well done with getting a place to stay! I moved to the Netherlands in November to work at a great University in Amsterdam. My family are still in Cape Town, South Africa. It took me 4 months to find a suitable, affordable, rental property! I managed to find a place in Baambrugge (perhaps, the most beautiful village in the Netherlands!) My goodness, it was difficult and stressful to say the least! But, I am so grateful that we have a place to stay - my family join me in July! I am so grateful and excited! Your videos have been such a great help, encouragement, and joy to watch over the last year! Thank you! Please keep up the great work! PS., Baambrugge is just down the road from Hilversum. My son will go to school there and we have many friends living in beautiful Hilversum. PPS., always wash the sheets and towels first! ha ha! No question about it!

There's quite some gems here in Eindhoven, like the reminiscences of the old Trudo church, a bridge over the river Dommel with the name of the architect in neon underneath it, a fallen over tree with reminiscences of the past between the roots and on the floor beneath and a lot more less easy to describe... As a man educated with the idea that personnel should know this about first washing or not, I used to have no clue. There's more to it than just an opinion. And I learned that the hard way. (1) Helping a very old citizen out, I bought new bed sheets and these got put onto the bed. Beautiful set, with a bit of saturated colours. The bed on which they had been put was in a corner of the nursing home's room. After a few nights, colour had been transferred from the sheets to the white walls. We complained to the brand and their response was, "but you have to wash them first." (2) Products produced in faraway countries may be packaged under a protective gas to prevent moulds, parasites, etc. to arrive at the destination. As these are toxic to certain species, I would say that this implies you always have to wash first, to get rid of such molecules sticking to your bed sheets. (3) "Natural" may be worse. There's a well-known insect spray in the NL. Because of the woke movement they changed the working substance in the spray from synthetic to natural. Small difference in 3D molecular structure. Turns out I am intolerant to the natural one, not the synthetic. This just to underline the importance of #2. Wash first.

Just go there and check out the Soesterduinen, a nature reserve which was shaped during the last iceage. Next visit Amersfoort, a lovely city, full of gems. I promise you’ll be exited. Now about sheets and towel. Always before use because they’re waxed. Which makes towels pretty useless before washing.

I always wash them first, simply because of reports about chemicals that are used to prevent damage by bugs during transportation from where ever they where produced. It is said that these can be toxic. So not so nice to go to sleep in for a night... Therefore I always take them out of the pack and let them air out in a ventilated room, and then I wash them, before the first use... (same with t-shirts and towels, etc.)

Hi Dears! So nice to see you back.🎉 If you've bought couloured sheets, like for instance green or darkblue, you should wash them before with some cleaning vinegar adjust. That will sustain the colour. Otherwise if the sheets don't smell to heavy, I let them hang freely in the air. After several hours they have a normal odour. Another nice 'gem' in your new neighbourhood you can find in the nearest village of Soest. Love your "Theme"!🎉😊

Hidden gem in Amersfoort: the Belgian Monument (Belgisch Monument / Belgenmonument). It's not so much hidden as it is just simply not in the top 5 of things one would immediately associate with Amersfoort. It's a WWI monument in art deco style, all within what is basically a garden/park. It's just so beautiful and serene and it used to be my favourite spot in Amersfoort when I lived there. There's also one of the measured middles of the country [I think there's like five in total, two of which can be found in Amersfoort: one on the grounds of the Belgian Monument and one in front of the Lieve Vrouwetoren].

The glass is called a coachman's glass and one of the reasons for it being shaped like that is so it could be hung on the coach. Bartenders like you to handle it like you showed because after a a few of those the glass has a high tendency to break as people try to make it stand on its own, it should be obvious though that the coachmen did not lift their coaches to take a sip. On the bed sheet inquiry, if you don't drop your new shirts and suits at the dry-cleaners directly after purchase there is no reason to wash those before first use either. An exception might be if you suffer from skin allergies but then the dry-cleaner is likely a bad idea as well.

The discovery of a Philips 21TX240A/06 television at 5:29 in the video is quite remarkable. The television dates back to 1958, making it quite rare. The radio at 5:32 is a fantastic Grundig 3055/56 that you should buy immediately if the price is below €100. It's truly worth more than that in impeccable condition. The radio at 5:50 is a Philips B4X53AT/01, not as interesting because it's no longer a true tube radio. There are earlier types of radios that were truly the first transistors. At €35, it's priced relatively high. At 5:59, there's a Philips 14TX113A television from 1955 shown for €150. I think that's a good price considering its collectible value. You don't often find them in such good condition. I don't know anything about the rest of the items. Just wanted to share this piece of audio & television because it's my hobby.

Congrats with finding a new place, Hilversum is nice. I would wash new bought sheets and towels first before use.

The islands in the top of Friesland and especially Terschelling would be an idea. The town of Bourtange is an extraordinary nice place to visit.

Amerfoort, only 1 train away or 25km by bike, nice city with lots of hidden gems. And if you like vintage, a few nice shops in the industrial area, like Vint and Spektakelwonen.

There is one close to where I live that's even fuller. All good stuff too. Prices a little higher too but I always found what I was looking for.

Wash them first, you never know what chemicals were used during production or transport. Really underestimated healthrisk guys.

O the sheets; yes always wash them first, bc in most sheets they spray ‘strijkstof’. So during shipping and handeling the sheets won’t wrinkle. It stinks and feels like sandpaper

You know they call it Hillywood? It's part of the region Het Gooi, which is famous for the Gooi's matras (mattress..) which is the best place to go if you want to get ahead in Dutch broadcasting land. Talking about sheets...

Hidden; visit amsterdam; het Begijnhof. In the middle of the city; peace and quiet and two churches and people still live there! ( nearby the Kalverstraat)

For me, I like that bed sheets are washed first when they are new, because they can sometimes still contain dye or other impurities from production.

Leaving my hometown :(. Hope you’ll have a very nice time in Hilversum though. A hidden gem I think are the streets behind the Grote Kerk in Gouda. Like going back in time.
