Wow! What a surprise to meet you both at the Vestingmuseum yesterday. You mentioned you want to come back to see the guns being fired, but it is still a matter of chance you were there when I got there. I know it sounds silly, but since you share our living room for so many years being on YT, it felt like meeting good old friends. I hope I didn't scare you too much, and that I could provide some translations during the show. I hope to meet you again in the area, together with my wife.

I am very interested in Daft. To your knowledge could you live on a houseboat? I am looking into them and can buy a houseboat for 100k keep 5K for daft pay the attorney 1K and the fees. I am a realtor in the states, but I could be a content creator or take photography for real estate companies. Housing is rough but a houseboat could be a way to go im hoping?

I welcome you to visit some places in the east for your upcoming videos. The Arnhem-Nijmegen-Veluwe region is completely different from the *boring* flat ones you’ve mentioned so far.. I’d be glad to show you around (by bike OF COURSE) or answer any of your questions in advance to planning the trip! 💙💛🖤 Also: if you like a bit of history, visit the Veenhuizen Museum. You’d be able to peek back in time to when the ‘verzorgingsstaat’ was founded in the 1800s. They’d pretty much detain the drunk and poor and put them to hard labour, but the idea to ‘look after’ the socially inapt really took off from there. Also: continuing on the history and assuming you Americans like a parade or two: visit (or better, join) the Airborne ‘wandeltocht’ in September. There will be military parades from WW2 allied nations, lots of parties and you will be officially Dutch after participating in one of the group hikes along historical places.

I’ve now watched most of your food tasting videos and I must say: you have cracked the code to being Dutch. We love our foreign foods more than our own. I sometimes wonder if that’s what our ‘former’ MP meant when promoting the ‘VOC mentality’. That being said, YOU ARE NOT ALONE in your quest for spicier food. Food is definitely, just like in the USA, adjusted to local standards 😔 I therefore suggest you’d go to a toko store and buy some of their ready-made stuff. The fewer the Dutch there the better the food will be probably 😉

Sir, some very bqsic knowledge that you can get from internet too: 1. Naan or rice is to be eaten with the curries. It suppress the heat of spicy curries. 2. Naan and rice are generally not eaten together. Thanks, enjoy your Indian meals...

You know nothing about pizza if you want it pre-cut. If I were served a pre-cut pizza, I would get up and walk out or reject the delivery. Also the whole idea of pizza delivered is a scam. Pizza must be eaten in a pizzeria straight out of the oven. I suggest a trip to Napoli.

Well, wirth Dutch food mostly you taste what is in it. If you don't like Dutch food, it's because of your taste buds are spoiled by all the additives in American food. German food is mostly greasy. Their frikandellen tastes of nothing.. Besides, Americans eat their food with ketchup. That's all the taste they need . People can add salt, pepper, what ever they want on their dishes. That way one doesn't spoil the food for anyone else 🤪 About queuing up : Americans like to THINK they do it properly, but when black friday starts... 😜 And yes, I do wash my hands. BUT ! I have warm water in the bathroom..

A few facts of interest (FOI): The "Guns" you saw, are really Canons, those with small wheels are originally Ships Canons, while those with 2 big wheels and a tail are field guns. In Dutch, those on shjps are called Kanons (plural) while those to be dragged across the fields (by Horses) are called Kanonnen (plural). Mind the difference in plurality denomination! While Naarden is the biggest town still kept as a fortification (Vesting), there are stiil others. Bourtange, in Groningen, is a very complete and well kept Vesting. Amsterdam was also a Vesting, bit you need a map to see. Google Maps can help, look at the outer "canal", called "Singelgracht", not to be confused by the "Singel" which is the innermost half-circle. You can search for the "Stadhouderskade", that goes along a part of the Singelgracht. Look for the "Bolwerken", same shape as in Naarden or Bourtange, there are some still recognizable. They look a bit like a Bisschops hood. Those Bolwerken are meant to shoot enemies that succeeded to invade a neighboring Bolwerk. There is a whole science behind fortifications.

The Zuiderzee museum in Enkhuizen is a nice (mostly) outdoor museum. Focuses on Dutch history, there are a lot of buildings from the 19th century that you can go inside and see how the people lived back then.

Awesome and surreal to see you guys in my corner of the world! Naarden-Vesteing really is great, isn’t it? Did you guys do a “rondje Vesting”? (walk around the city) You asked recommendations. So as someone who lived in Bussum for 26 years and Huizen for 9, well… :)) First of all… all the nature! Pretty much all the forests and heathers (hei/heide) are great and have great places to eat/drink. (Heidezicht, Tafelberg, het Bluk) I also love to walk along the Gooimeer. Start at Zomerkade and walk to restaurant Bruis. Go have icecream at the 2 best icecream places in ‘t Gooi: Sundaes (Huizen) and De Hoop (Blaricum). The last one has been best icecream shop of the Netherlands and is a Must for anyone living in ‘t Gooi. In the summer, go to outdoor swimming pool Sijsjesberg. Or take the Eemlijn boat with (or without) your bike. Or go back to the Vesting and take a boat around it. :) Have you been to Foodhall Mout yet? The Muiderslot castle? Sooooooo much to see! Can’t wait to see what you check out. Sometimes it’s the less well known things that speak to a person, so who knows. Last thing I would say is that one of the things I find interesting about ‘t Gooi is that all the villages have a very distinct “vibe”. Even when they are close/next to each other. Something to maybe pay attention to when you visit. Enjoy!!

Funniest thing about Naarden Vesting, and the reason why it's so well preserved, is because it was never really used lol. It was built after the attack on Naarden by the Spanish in 1572 and then remained in use as a fortress until 1926, but never really saw any real battles in all that time. Then in the 20th century it was abandoned by the army and turned into a museum.

Good place isn’t it? When you say it especially is good when you have children, Eric must feel at home there 😂. The Netherlands has been at war with Spain for over 80 years, called de tachtig jarige oorlog. It was Willem van Oranje who got his fame in that time, and he is an ancestor of our royal family. Naarden was important in that time as it defended Holland, the two provinces. In the north there were also two important vestingen, Coevorden and Bourtange. Coevorden developed to a more modern city, but parts of the triangle shaped defense-walls are still there and it has a lovely little castle. And I surely recommend a visit to Bourtange. It is 8n the province of Groningen and is kept in original state. Have fun traveling around and don’t forget to visit me in Lelystad. A new city, where there is a museum where they build those 16th century ships after original plans from that time. It functions as a school for carpentry as well. Happy discovery. Erik

You know, I see a lot of videos about the USA. And it surprises me that there are a lot of people in the USA that there are no other coutries and the USA it the whole world. This afternoon I was watching a guy who had several questions to people, like where is Australia, and they told him it is a village in Chicago city. Or there was somebody from Iraq and they assumed that it was in Russia. Greetings, Roelof. I was really shocked.

Try to get a bit more out of the Randstad: - Delden situated in the east in Overijssel. Great nature, great Castle. It is called Kasteel Twickel. Twickel is really a beauty and still privately owned. - Deventer - Groningen - Maastricht - Take a bike ride in Drente or kanoing - Breda There is so much more outside the Randstad. The Netherlands is so much more then the Randstand. All easy to reach by train.
