I have the Ron Miles Resonance mouthpiece that was designed for this instrument. You have inspired me to dig it out and give it another go. There was confusion over the rim numbering and it was smaller than I expected.

I remember when Ron Miles came to town with Matt Wilson he was playing the prototype of that horn and sounded amazing (of course). I do believe it has been improved since then it sounds great!

Wow! Absolutely beautiful Trent. This would sound fabulous on the old “true” cornet solo literature of the late 19th & early 20th century. For some very interesting reading, check out John H. Barron’s very comprehensive book, “Concert Life in Nineteen Century New Orleans” he has information on the not so well known cornet soloists in the post war New Orleans concert scene. Highly recommended book for anyone interested in the music of one of the most important musical cities in 19th Century America. There’s some excellent details on the 1884-1885 World Cotton Exposition in New Orleans which featured the Mexican 8th Regimental Band who performed concerts in New Orleans for several months in just about every venue and their influence upon NO Music was very important. Their appearances were the first in NO and also possibly the entire US where the saxophone was first exposed to NOLA Musicians. Upon their departure from their lengthy engagement they gifted many band instruments to the musicians on NOLA. Barron’s expose on this band gives an interesting look into just how much this very well rehearsed ensemble influenced the music of New Orleans.

I get it. Hmmm. If I was patient enough I might get Dave to make one for me. I think my P3 took over two years. At my age that's a long time.

I don't get it. I can see that are so beautiful and I know they are quality built instruments; but every one I have ever heard, including the couple I played in their shop, sounds so breathy and honestly kind of dull. I know how to make a breathy tone when I want it, but I wasn't a fan of the fact that on a Monette, I just couldn't turn it off.

Does this sound "Breathy"all the time? No. It doesn't really matter if you get it or not but I understand your post. Personality I get it and got it 😎

Trent is right, you either get it or you don't. I own a Monette trumpet, heavier weight B957 model built in '97. It has a beautiful satin like sound, but man it can scream if you need it to! Very nice instrument and beautiful playing as usual Trent! One day I would love to travel to K.C. and pick out my dream flugel! Keep up the great work on the channel!
@SubDUex2 жыл бұрын
I certainly don't mean to belittle your choice, and I hope to see more videos of your Cornette over time to see how your playing it evolves as you get to know the horn -- I also hope you have a blast with it, Trent, it's a seriously cool horn design! Despite not really getting the Monette thing, I would still love to own one. They are a thing of beauty and perhaps if I owned one, the time spent with it would open my eyes to how to make the thing play the way I want. I currently play a Monette mouthpiece, which I am hoping to replace as the specific model just doesn't work perfectly for me. I would consider another Monette mpc if I can find the right one. I've actually been looking at your mouthpieces for a couple months but am having a hard time figuring out the equivalencies.

$18k? Yow. I was sampling horns with Mick Gillette once and asked his opinion about Monette. He said: "A hunk of lead for the price of a car." No offense, Trent!
@austincustom Жыл бұрын
none taken I know most people can't afford one and then will get aggressive about the price. I don't have any problem with the price. It's a work of art. You can't expect Morton's food at McDonald's but both are meals I guess.
