I recently did this on one of my old trumpets, and it came out great!

Dude that looks FABULOUS. I've been wanting to do something like this on a trombone... I think I'll follow your process. I may buy multiple Yamaha 354s to experiment on....

Very impressive results for a first try! The bell looks awesome. Personally I like the unlacquered look of a brass instrument.

nicely done, any updates?

I have an old trumpet ,and it doesn't have laquer on it, I want to make it scratch brush finished like you're cornet ,but I'm not sure if I do as you have done in the video,will my trumpet be ruined. You said you will do an update video on your cornet. I want to see your cornet's current state,so if I like it, I'll do it.

I use barkeepers friend on my rawbrass horn... but idk if that will mess up the scratch brush finish

I grew up playing a Reynolds Medalist cornet, and the finish is in bad shape. I want to do this with it, so I appreciate the step-by-step.

Of course! My instrument tech was mad I used brasso but when I told him that I wasn't keeping the finish he told me "oh it doesn't matter then". Instrument is in the shop as of last week and I'll make an update/completion video as soon as I get it back. I think if you are looking to rescue a super old horn on a budget it's definitely worth it. The instrument plays clearer without the lacquer as well but I am sure that's on a case by case basis.

@@CJsMusicTrumpet mine is actually the horn I currently play, as I'm getting back into music after falling out of it after high school. The finish on the horn is just awful now so I definitely want to do something for it.

It still needs more detail work, but my horn is pretty much done. I need to spend a little more time in between the valve casings and the slides, and then I'd like to replace the ancient, now hard rubber pads on the water keys with cork, and the third valve slide is a little stiff and needs work. All in all, pretty happy with it.

@@tpierce104 That's awesome!! Did you do anything differently than I did or did the process I used pretty much work for you?

Hey man, did this to my old cheap trombone and I was wondering how it's doing now like it's oxidation and like if it gets super dirty or and if you added lacquer how did the spray laquer hold up
@CJsMusicTrumpet Жыл бұрын
I haven’t lacquered it yet. i’m letting it sit and oxidize. it’s still in that process. but I like the way it looks so far
