It's a very nice community in a beautiful area. I love that it has access to public transportation. Lots to love, big lot sizes, community garden, by a river, mountains are close by. But the thing I love best is she balanced her financial needs with making the lot rent very affordable, instead of trying to pull as much $$ as she can from it. Not only is there a need for affordable housing which tiny homes can fill, people need places like this one that are very affordable. I also like the fact she allowed those in mobile homes to stay instead of pushing them out and raising rents dramatically. Thanks for the great tour of your community Jill!

Well stated. It's a win-win situation. Not everyone wants to "retire" to an apartment. Hopefully, more people will see the impact and importance of communities like this. Especially for people with disabilities. I would definitely be helping and working in the garden areas.

What a delightful woman Jill is. I so love her view of life and willingness to provide a safe, affordable community for others without taking advantage financially. I'm rooting for her, her future plans, and the gentle folks at River Edge. If I didn't "need" to live 4 blocks from the ocean in southern Oregon, I'd be checking out this place for sure. BTW, I loved Janet's shirt about being the same age as old people. I ordered one from Amazon just now 😅

My custom THOW was built by Lil Bear Tiny Homes out of South Branch, MI. He has talked to his county board about allowing them. They aren’t on board, yet. I’m in IL in the village I grew up in. It has about 120 residents. Get your info in order and go to small towns and ask if they will allow Tiny homes. Explain the build process and that they are NOT trailers or park models. Most places accept current trailers but won’t let residents swap out. Sometimes all people know is that they are ‘tiny’. My county health dept basically said that town laws trump county. So if a small town will allow, you should be good! Apparently we don’t have certain codes here. Seems odd. And my building permit to get my utilities put in was $5. Five dollars! lol I bought a dbl lot where a house and garage burned. The house was built in 1890. Septic? So there has been a lot of work. Maybe by Mother’s Day I’ll be in?! 🙏🏻 Then maybe my The Squatch Inn can be featured?! 😁🙏🏻 Good luck!!

Loved this video! It is so nice to see people say the same thing about "community". I feel the same way about living in LuxTiny Tiny House Community. This is the first time in my life that I know the majority of my neighbors. I lived on a street with most of my family at one time and beyond my family I never interacted with any of the other people on our street. Here in this community I am on a one on one face to face relationship with the majority of the community. It has been the best move of my life. Tinyhouse living is the best!

Great video. I would love to see how these communities become a reality, including the cost to design/build with all the infrastructure, the permitting process, and how to attract investors to help fund the project. That would be very helpful for those who want to create affordable tiny home communities.

Well, this was a lovely and refreshing reminder of the joy, ease, and peace that is possible with tiny home communities. Here in Los Angeles, there really aren't examples that it's possible and exists. It's easy to get caught in the mindset of lack of community, even amongst a shared property. I loved this perspective and definitely needed the tap on the shoulder that "your people are out there"! Great community tour🙌🏾

Yes; they’re out there! 💖 Creating new tiny home communities are definitely difficult in expensive real estate areas. Wouldn’t it be great for cities to offer up odd vacant lots that they already own to create alternative housing like this? 😃

I'm 76 yrs. old and was raised on the now-cliche premise that where there's a will, there's a way. I've accomplished some very hard things in my long life by keeping laser-focused on my goal at the time, setting aside negative thinking that said it was impossible, that I was a dreamer. I always ended up listening to my heart and my gut and followed their advice 99% of the time. And, things turned out 99% of the time. Please don't think, "maybe one day this may be me." Think, "absolutely one day this will be me." Obstacles you think you could never overcome become challenges to your creative thinking skills. You can accomplish this; I feel it in my old bones 🥰

How can someone make it without housing assistance on 1,000. a month? I have to live on that amt. with my physically disabled adult daughter.
@TinyHouseExpedition5 ай бұрын
Good question! Here’s a low end monthly expense estimate for a low income single person, $1200-broken down: $400 lot rent & sewer, $45 water & electric, $50 internet, $25 mobile phone, $175 Medicare or Medicaid health insurance & prescriptions, $400 groceries, $14.50 on-demand bus service or less (high speed rail free for seniors on certain days), $100 other. And add $300-500/month if you have an RV or tiny house monthly loan payment (could pay off on 10-15 years). 😅 Does that seem realistic?
@hollyvick1815 ай бұрын
Oh the cedar one is tiny!

That is a good rate for lot rent but not if your income is only 600 a month.
