A typical 2 mins in 2002 at Ipswich - Class 86, Mk2 and DBSO's (inc hired in Virgin 86)

How things change. Some of the ex-Anglia Mk2's are even in operation with Kiwi Rail providing commuter services in New Zealand! Some of the ex-Anglia Loco's are operating in eastern and central Europe. Hired in virgin 86 also featured.

I think at this time 86242 may actually have been an Anglia loco. Virgin were able to release a number of class 86s in 2001/2 as the Voyagers entered service and this one did go to Anglia and received the Anglia livery some time in late 2002.

242 was still on hire from Virgin at this point, if it had been transferred permanently the Virgin branding would have been removed as it was when One took the 90s

I love mk2 dbso's or as i call them mk2 dvts.... Theyre odd but thats why i like them. It remidms me of a 201 or 416 epb. It looks best in Anglia.

Loving the old 86s , the pretendolino ran the great eastern mainline when greater anglia had brought some from virgin trains west coast.

Didn't the railway find out that DBSO's were unsafe due to the crash worthiness.. Wasn't there some serious accidents with DBSO's being at the front?

I doubt it because they still use them now on test trains and stuff but maybe

I assume you're referring to the Polmont Rail disaster? There were calls at the time to remove trains with unpowered vehicles leading, but those were not acted on, and DBSOs continue in service to this day.

Polmont accident: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polmont_rail_accident There were questions about the principle of the heavy locomotive at the back, however the other significant issue was that the cow got caught under the wheels, hence all DBSOs are now fitted with full cow catchers.
