As a Rapide owner, thank you for making the world aware of how cool and fun this car is. Of note, the service at 40,000 and 70,000 miles is when the spark plugs need to be changed which adds an additional labour cost as the inlet manifold needs to be removed. Also the throttle body has to be undone to access the oil filter which is in an awkward position. Great presentation. I struggled where to put the owners manual and ended putting it in the door pocket like you showed.

Doug, you forgot to mention the B&O 1000w sound system that self adjusts when you have passengers, also the doors are self holding so you can open them and they stay in place and the windows embed themselves the faster you go to help with sound proofing. The nav in the 2011 is Volvo based, just like your old Vantage Doug. The 2012 introduced the Garmin which actually works pretty nicely and was a definite improvement over the Volvo based nav. It’s nice to have a folding screen which I keep closed almost 100% of the time. There is no “easy mode” on the Garmin. Great review and thanks, Larry

As for the “poor Garmin GPS”. I had a 2009 Volvo V70 D5, and the very same GPS system was installed in it, with a sliding out screen and 2 remotes. So, even using it in 2016 was a very intuitive, precise, full of preinstalled POIs and easy to use GPS system. I may assume, for that period, 2009-2011 it was one of the best solutions on the market. Please remember - these were the days of iPhone 3G, 3Gs and early 4. Google Maps were just released in September 2008 and only for Android and iOS. There were no sign of Android or Car Play. American cars still offered a cassette deck those days, Lexus in particular :) So, during those times it was hard to expect anything special, compared to our days. But even at those times, this GPS system supported traffic info and route recalculation according to traffic conditions and this still works in Germany (tested myself in 2018). Even a 2019 Audi requires you to download a separate app, which is laggy and works only if it is active on screen every time, in order for you to get traffic and POI info. So, I wouldn’t be that much sarcastic about it. ;)

My parents have a 2010 Lincoln MKZ. They have the hardest time trying to use the navigation, I wish they had an easy mode, it would help them a lot. Then I would want advanced mode for myself. Gstaad, CH; 2017 NYE. “Parked” (nosed-in, a meter deep, with engine running) in a snowdrift in front of The Palace hotel’s entry, windows down, in the midst of heavy snowfall… it was easy to determine which bar patron was responsible… should have taken it off his hands, in retrospect. Fun fact from Harry Metcalfe of Harry's Garage. the Rapid actually has some weird issues with the design of the door sills. where to get in and out, the back of your calf scraps across the lower part of the frame- which if it was raining out -gets whatever was on the frame onto your leg/pants/dress. it is especially bad with the rear door.

Michael Janicki It might look similar but the Rapide actually comes standard with a 10 speaker 1000w custom made Bang and Olufson stereo. It’s actually pretty awesome with powered tweeters that rise out of the dash and it auto tunes the sound stage depending on which seats are occupied. Definitely not a Volvo fit item!

This was one of the last truly handsome designs before sedans became overstyled and tacky. It's funny that it got such flack, even now, over the nav and screens, when that is such an easily upgradable part of a car, especially considering how much else Aston got right with the design that it's contemporaries still struggle with. For the money, buy it and replace the nav/screens if it bothers you that much. Your local car stereo installer would be happy to help.

@@mcgusto82 I totally understand how that goes. I had my Audi stolen many years back, and when the car was recovered, the bass speakers had been removed. It was an OEM Bose system, and there was no drop-in replacement speaker. In order to replace them with an aftermarket unit, I had to remove the ENTIRE soundsystem: everything from the head unit, to the tweeters, and even the WIRING was incompatible. And I agree that Acura was killing it during that period. That generation of TL was my favourite. I showed it to my father and he bought it same day. He replaced it with another when the next generation came out. That one had DVD Audio if I recall.
