I'm sorry you had to abort your mission, but it really was the right decision, considering circumstances. I've been at that lighthouse. The last couple of km is soft sand and that slows you down significantly. Going on a bike would be better to take a tent and plan to camp. There are hiking trails and some other interesting stuff in the area. The lighthouse itself, however, is worth to take on. When i was there, it was possible to climb up the lighthouse, although it was not easy - you had to swim to get to the base of the thin and the somehow climb up to the doorway, that was about 1.5 m above waterline (that is ofcourse subject to change), but you are standing about chest height in water. The ladder to the top was rusted to a mere twig-sized sketchy contraption. I lived and the view was superb. I hope you are able to finish your trip sometime later, while it's warm outside.

All your videos are a unique glimpse into the culture and the actual "street view" of the places you visit. However, this video stands out because it honestly depicts the constant decisions one must make with this sort of travel. It also depicts the subsequent efforts of weighing energy expenditure with genuine risk and also spontaneous adventure while adjusting to decisions. Hi Matthew, sorry that you didn't make it to your destination of Saaremaa, Estonia. At least you can say that you tried your best to make it but it just wasn't possible. This was a good journey in that you got a lot of fresh air and exercise. Loved your one liner of "Hope there are no spiders". Can't deny it, but my wife and I were laughing quite a bit watching your Saaremaa trip. We took couple of summers ago 3-4 day long bicycle trip in Saaremaa and the stong wind was there in summer time as well. We completely understand your experience. But the island is filled with amazing places to discover. :) Also, it was great to see that you liked Tallinn and had the opportunity to see its different sides. The next time you are going to visit Estonia we must get you a better bike or if you like, then a small trip with a car to all the weird and wonderful places.

Only last 9 km's is gravel road, but he was gonna fail anyways. Last 2-3 km's are part of the hiking trail, so suitable only for walking/mountain biking. But the thing is, there are parts thatcan be under water this time of the year, and a lot also depends on the wind direction.

Never been to Estonia, but I've known about Saremaa since the 6th through geography books and now the Internet. So, I was instantly attracted to your video thinking I was going to end up having a better idea about the place. However, this was a really bad video and a lot of wasted time hearing your whining about your bad decisions and seeing your lack of common sense and normal organizational skills before you travel! I mean, Saremaa is not famous or known outside of Estonia, so everyone was expecting a fun, little trip to check out the sights! Instead of that, you wouldn't even show the moated castle or the main town Kuresaare because you were fixated all day on trying to reach some stupid light house that's not even spectacular (I checked that online)! Next time, Google your routes and sites, so you wouldn't waste something else's time! 😠
