A very cold week in Finland: frozen pipes and ice lanterns (🇫🇮 tekstitykset)

Had a very calm New Year at home and then it got very cold, around -20 to -22 degrees 24/7. Next week it should luckily be warmer, although this cold weather is undeniably beautiful! ❄️
The frozen pipe is just one pipe that usually freezes when it gets down to -20 because the pipe is most likely under the floor instead of inside the house. It should be fixed at some point but for now it is not very high on my priority list since all the other pipes are inside and easier to keep from freezing.

I monitor global temperatures and anomalies, and it has been interesting how a very cold blob of air has stuck around Scandinavia for so long (while the rest of the world is mostly extremely warm for the time of the year)

Oh I'm so glad I've come across your channel - I make KZbin videos in a similar spirit as you about my life in North America and it's so lovely finding a kindred spirit. It has been so unnaturally warm where I am that it makes me happy to see a real winter still happening where you are. Keep going with your videos! Sending love from my little corner of the world to yours!

This is the first video I have watched, on your channel and the first time I have heard of/seen ice lanterns. They are beautiful and I could see how they might also add something to the winter holidays (Solstice, Christmas and New Year) as decorations.

Those ice lanterns are gorgeous. I spent most of my life in Wisconsin, in the northern part of USA with cold winters, and never tried anything like that. I love how you embrace winter and wish I would have enjoyed it more.

Your ice-lanterns are lovely!😀 Here in Minneapolis, Minnesota, we have had record-breaking warm weather, so almost no snow. It's very strange...not like our usual wintry weather.🥺 Perhaps in January & February we will have low enough temperatures to make ice lanterns...?🤔 Thank you for sharing daily stories of your life. Wishing you a Happy New Year! 🙏🌿🕊🌿😊💚😘🌿🕊🌿🙏

Same issue here in New Hampshire. We've had unusually warm weather. Finally, over the weekend, we had temps in the low 20s (F) and six inches of snow (from a nor'easter). Tonight we anticipate another five inches which is coming over from your neck of the woods, in a normal pattern.

I've tried making ice lanterns before, but where I live doesn't get far below freezing constantly, but maybe later this season.... Yours looked great!

Minnesota is cold 🥶 but not that cold. To this day I marvel that the little birds survive the cold winter. So beautiful. Good to see the dogs and I too think about entertaining mine with new smells…Happy 2024!

They are truly surprisingly hardy little creatures! Although sometimes they do need a little help and people have been taking them inside to warm up from time to time. Then they are good to go again! 😄

Thank you! 😊 I used to be very interested in the exotic pets and building terrariums. Since then my interest has shifted more towards a different kind of pet keeping but I still have 3 snakes; an old snake I adopted when it was looking for a new home, my very first snake and a snake I was taking care of for a friend and 4 years later it's still with me. 😄 God fortsättning! ✨

Minus 20…. Wow, lately it’s been 10+ here. Then again, it rarely dips below -10 even here in the Netherlands. So I’m a moderate temperature person, but the snow is delightfully crunchy under your footsteps. 😊

@@mikrokupu Thank you kindly! I wonder if there is a figurative or poetic way to express this- a sort of melancholy, but also joy, to see people living as they once may have done in the forests near Mikkeli…

What was the point of shaking snow off the trees?
@camillafjader
@camillafjader 9 ай бұрын
The lilac bushes gather a lot of snow that weighs them down a lot and especially when it gets warmer and the snow gets heavier it can easily snap off branches. They also block my path from the woodshed when they hang low like that. 😅

Dont remove snow at your trees bacause snow helps their survive with very cold tempertatures. Remove only wet and heavy snow because it could damage trees.
