Beautiful Autumn colors in the drone shots! I also meant to comment on a previous video about the clear cut forest, that there are some upsides, even if it sucks to loose a forest like that. Next Spring there might be "korvasieni" mushrooms popping up in the clear cut forest. It's a lot of work to make them safe to eat, but they're one of the most delicious mushrooms. In the coming years you'll probably also get a lot of "maitohorsma" flowers growing there.

Embark has gotten so sketchy and money hungry. Back when I dna tested my dogs (3) there was only one breed reveal test and you could opt to pay extra for the health portion. Included was a family tree, an age chart that was surprisingly accurate and we got these cool dog tags that you could put on your dogs collar that had a barcode to that dog’s embark profile. Now you get no freebies and they decided to chop up the tests into breed, health, age and purebred for maximum profit. Lame af. I can’t say anything about the village dog issue though. That’s just how it is with heavily mixed dogs. One of my dogs came back with 7 different breeds so if the breed information is there for Embark to take I don’t see why they wouldn’t list breeds.

One could dream big, Sleipnir comes to mind 😁 My grandfather had Belgian workhorses and later a mule he would use instead of his tractor. What are the commands in Finnish for gee, haw, whoa & the "click-click" for go?
@camillafjader
@camillafjader Ай бұрын
That's honestly something I would be much more interested in than riding! 😄 I even looked up some old horse-pulled equipment for hay making recently. Would be fun to try! We also use the click-sound for "go" and then "prrrr" for slow down/stop. Other commands I think varies a lot. 😄

Ahh… I was surprised how you pronounced sauna. 😊 I am impressed with your dedication to your lifestyle. I have pondered such a way of life for many years. The chaos and expense of Kaliphornya really tests my patience more frequently than I’d like. And I watch a lot of videos that originate from the Nordics and Great Britain, so I see that the cost of living and social chaos seems to be everywhere. It actually troubles me a lot to see people in your age group filled with despair, even when I don’t know them and really shouldn’t be bothered by it. The nearly uniform inability for people in Ireland to afford a home, the growing Orwellian nightmare in England, the illegal immigration problems facing Italy, France and Germany and honest assessments of places like Mälmo have given me pause to reflect on my notion relocate to the north of Sweden and leave the States. So it’s uplifting to me to see someone like yourself not giving up or becoming bitter. You have a lot going for you :)

Lives in home made of wood. Burns wood to keep warm. Sad because someone have to provide this wood. This is hypocritical.
@camillafjader
@camillafjader Ай бұрын
We cut the wood I burn ourselves and there's no need to cut down an entire forest for that, I assure you. Most of it is trees that bark beetles have already killed. The house I live in was built 100 years ago, there's no saving that wood anymore. Might as well take as good care of it as possible to make the wood last. I also buy all my wood furniture used. There are ethical ways to source wood and then there's just destruction for monetary gain. Clear cutting falls under the latter.
@a8f235
@a8f235 Ай бұрын
@@camillafjader There are 8 billion people on this planet. You are 1 individual. Goods have been traded/sold since the dawn of time, so cutting down trees to sell them is nothing new. Farmers often need to be creative to make ends meet, and wood can be a good side income. Trying to say you re-use wood only means you are fine with the fact that tree have been cut down as long as someone else did the dirtywork for you. The same goes for people being mad about people who eat meat while they have no issues with their own cat killing mice and rodents, or all the wildlife who kill prey every single day out in the wild... There's pros and cons with everything in this world. Just because we do not like something, doesn't mean we cannot accept it. I live in the countryside as well, and I accept hardworking farmers who do a lot of work that a lot of people in this day and age will scream bloody murder over, when it's just perfectly normal. We should rather support the farmers, because politicians are trying to bleed them out... _Don't bite the hand that feeds you..._
@camillafjader
@camillafjader Ай бұрын
Figured since you referred to my specific lifestyle as hypocritical in the previous comment, we were talking about me as an individual. Either way I repeat, there are more ethical/sustainable ways to do things and those are the farmers I choose to support. None of my business who other people support. I have never criticized cutting trees as a whole, only clearcutting. I still think it's totally acceptable to feel emotional and mourn never walking in that beautiful forest again.
@a8f235
@a8f235 Ай бұрын
@@camillafjader It's pretty evident you only want to view this from your own perspective as you failed to get the point I tried to make with 8 billion people on this planet to broaden your horizon, open your eyes and so on. I also mentioned it because the trees that were cut there are going to more than one person, so claiming that you cut down less is irrelevant because you are only one person so that's pretty obvious which again is the definition you only see this from your own perspective. Also defining it as *_an entire forest_* is just blowing things way out of proportion because this is just a small area of a forest, so this is just an emotional rant. Feeling frustrated I could understand but crying I just feel is over the top. Nobody have died, so mourning over things without a pulse is beyond me that's where I'll leave it.

it is always challenging when we meet devastation by human greed. With out putting out the general need for habitants of what makes it to be so beautiful. We get globally same phenomen and we then once we are challenged by weather that repeats its self we get sad and pissed of for we got too late in educating the needed. It pisses me off for i know it happening globally we just learning how greed is allowed to own a daily need that protects our daily life. Challenges are many one is to show world why we all need to do more.

Ihana tuo jänismaalaus! Siinä on jännä tunnelma. Neljä vuodenaikaa on ihana asia. Itsekin haaveilen vanhan sammaleisen metsän omistamisesta. Tunnereaktiosi noihin hakkuisiin on ihan oikeutettu. Suurin osa pohjoisen kansasta valitettavasti on unohtanut juurensa.

What a beautiful footage ❤️ the beginning reminds me of a vlog by Jonna Jinton titled "A Heavy Heart" from some years ago in which she had suddenly lost one of her favourite forests as well. She said that "losing a forest is like losing a friend", and I bet you can relate to that feeling too. Even knowing that down here in North we live mostly from the forest industry, it always hurts to see the devastation. I hope you'll find your own piece of nature to protect and get inspiration from. ❤

It's always upsetting when beloved trees are cut down. 🫤 It's it a commercial plantation? A lot of Coniferous forests are cut down here, usually replaced by deciduous varieties.
@camillafjader
@camillafjader Ай бұрын
I don't think it was a commercial plantation specifically but ofc owned and cut down for monetary gain only. That owner has now cut down all the forest they own.. 🙄 They're legally obligated to replant though. Most of the forests closest to our property is actually owned by a business in the timber industry but luckily they're pretty good about keeping the forests close to a natural state, only thin out but not cut down completely (except if the trees have pests or are completely rotten) and replant what grew there before.

Absolutely heartbreaking.😢 My neighbor cut a bunch of the forest behind me about 5 years ago. They left not only stumps, but a complete mess of branches that were “useless” to the lumber company. I, too, cried at the devastation. And then I realized that as awful as it was, some good came of it. The wildflowers came up and grasses, which brought the deer to feed (they can’t find much to eat in the deep forest, especially in winter). The downed brush and branches became dens for foxes, bobcats and even a bear. If it helps any, nature adapts and it will recover given time and patience. I promise.
@stevenjohnson7086
@stevenjohnson7086 Ай бұрын
Thank you for another heartfelt story. They help me stay inspired to be mindful of the good things I have at hand. I often let myself get very troubled by things like social unrest in Great Britain, Scotland and more. But there is a place like where you live that in Washington state I am bound to care for. I visit there several times a year and spend time on a mower just like yours, haha! And at night, the frogs come alive with such intensity that causes me great joy. There are birdsongs that are new to me, and the deer have always enjoyed the gardens. It’s fun to get an alert on my phone to see some critter has woken the security cameras again. One day, God willing, perhaps I will be privileged to care for the place even more. I envision most of the lawn areas being covered in natural wildflowers and perhaps a beehive would work, too. It’s always heartbreaking for me to see a forest cut down, but as some who builds, someone who provides and as a man who loves, I understand the need for the things forests provide us… including inner strength and solitude found on quiet walks. That beautiful red home you are painting was once part of a forest, and the heat from that iron stove is a transition from the warm sunlight that grew the trees whose wood now keeps the Finnish frost and dampness from making you sick. I think I came at peace with that long ago, but I am not at peace with how corporations replant the land in the manner they do, and I am bitter at private landowners who choose to clear cut for a onetime profit without regard to topsoil washoff that ruins the land and streams. I enjoy your stories.

They cut very much trees in Sweden now too, because the Prize is high now. But I hope they will plant other trees instead and not just one kind of trees.
