Well, I enjoyed the story. It’s descriptive and vivid but the wanton killings were not easy to stomach.

Not a bad story at all. Worth listening to and it's always good to hear a variety of voices. I liked his informal, easy going writing style. Obviously, Corbett is the gold standard. I would also recommend the works of peter capstick and Teddy roosevelt, lthough not from India

Commenting from Across the Border. During my Childhood we used to read Excerpts from Jim Corbett's stories translated in Urdu published in a mid weekly publication. After a Gap of more than 20 years I found Corbett stories here and Rummage through to my utter satisfaction. Thank you for reciting and uploading. Cheers.

I absolutely love this author. He is funny, brash and unapologetic about his excesses. No pretenses were made. This is him living his life large, hunting, drinking toddy, exploding fireworks as it used to be back then with people of means. He casually calls the tribals "Jungly friends" @ 31:00 haha colloquially 'Jungly' means 'uncivilized'. He describes the donkey being used as bait as a "dilapidated hatrack" hahaha and as " a bag of bones" hahaha. He says "a self-respecting tiger" wouldn't even touch such an animal. I died laughing. No political correctness at all. Amazing!!!

@@selvalore I pray you keep busy and occupied with your other work and schedules that help you prosper in life but also wish you continue to find the time, energy and passion to do these reads for us. Im an avid reader myself but cant sleep without e books and this genre is my favourite. Im a naturalist and painter and would love to take you along to my quarterly jungle retreats, these stories take me back instantly to the machans i spend 3-5 nights in waiting to sight animal movement. Someday hopefully we may sit in one of those sultry machans and discuss Jim corbett.

Iv never heard of or read this book before so I thank you for bringing it to me . It's written in a different style to Mr Corbett and the shootings are more random where Mr Corbett only shot problem cats but we have to remember that this happened in a different age a long time ago. Perfectly read as always ,thank you 👍

Thanks for the comment. That's right. This is written in more of a typical hunter's vein reflective of that era. Although, the rest of the book isn't as jam packed with random shootings as this story is.

Thanks for a wonderful story. Liked how the author described the machan building process. Made me realize how expensive and elaborate those organized hunts used to be. Is it any wonder then that only the royals and the colonial officers were able to afford all the manpower involved in beating the ground and building the machan plus the cost of the bait. And if the tiger didn't show up, it would all go to waste!

I have read the book downloaded from Google Archives.At 12 am at night in silence of the night I read such book to enjoy the thrill.But I compare the hunters like Douglas Hamilton in the 18th Century who shot bison and Tiger standing on a ladder syep which was leaning against a tree! Since photography was not invented sketches ate given by him in the book.OMG! The forestof Annamalai Neiilgherry and Palani hills of south India was TEEMING with games.elephants bison.The tail of bison to make soup for him and meat for jungle and natives.He made survey of these jungles.Went to Java etc.

Thanks for putting up the work of a different author this time. The author must have known Corbett for sure as it seems like they were contemporaries. The thinking was very different back then and it shows in this story. If anything, this shows just a glimpse of the extent of the imperial hunt in India and Africa. How far have we come from such days!! Enjoyable nonetheless, and well read!

Some people are gonna throw shade at the British calling it the 'imperial hunt' because they are an easy target but the arrival of firearms in the hands of the Maharajas and Indian princes arguably did more damage. The Maharaja of Surguja killed 1700 tigers while the Maharaja of Udaipur shot 1000 tigers. There are countless such cases as small kingdoms and dominions were spread throughout the country. The point is that attitudes towards tigers and dangerous carnivores, in general, were very different back then. Anyway, I don't want to distract from the otherwise good story that was read. Please refer to the addendum in the beginning. They are based on the author's personal experiences. He was a colonial officer in India. Not as well known as Corbett, or Anderson.

Does not sound realistic like Corbett. The Indian carnvora does not appear in quick succession like a Hollywood movie.
