There is nothing celebrating early silent films and the beginnings of Hollywood film industry. No DW Griffith... No Charlie Chaplin... Harold Lloyd or Buster Keaton. No Squaw man... No Mary Pickford! A Travesty. My favorite part is the open air observation deck with the stunning view! I could sit there all day. And yes loads of dead space... 🤦🤷 I've said over and over huge mistake for the Academy to turn down the memorabilia Debbie Reynolds had. And yes! I one hundred percent agree the collection of items I want to see is Todd's. Far and away superior to the Academy Museum. 💪💪❤

@Annie m meh, the academy is a joke. Just like the rock n roll hall of fame. Seeing Jordan show us these places is awesome but I don't even waste my time debating as to why certain people weren't recognized or inducted. Its purely political garble. Like the academy, the rock n roll hall of fame inducted acts that aren't even rock and roll like nwa, yet they turn down bands like J geils over 5 times throughout the years. Its the same thing with the Academy. And im not surprised the museum has nothing celebrating early silent films and the beginnings of the Hollywood film industry. They'd probably consider it oppressive or something today lol. God forbid they put anything in there related to that. Regardless, Jordan's vlogs are the best.

They were stupid to not help Debbie get the museum going years ago. I am happy that Todd, Debbie's son let you take us through his home to showcase the treasures ge has. I feel like this museum is so underwhelming. There was such a huge potential to have an immersive experience using the costumes and pieces, and instead it was just a lot of cases full of random things that didn't tell any kind of a story, which is ironic for what it is. It feels like any collector's house, only with black walls. I just cannot believe they passed up Debbie's entire collection in favor of... that? I'm happy I have a piece of her collection at least. Oh, what could have been...

It makes me so mad that all those years Debbie Renyolds tried to have all those great costumes and memoriabilia put into a museum and no one would help her. You would think some of the giants in the industry could of banded together done a fundraiser or something to make it happen. Breaks my heart she tried all those years and never saw her dream realized and now lots of it has been auctioned off prob into private collections.

Fascinating! I have seen another pair of the Ruby slippers at the Smithsonian Museum in DC. It's a shame the Academy didn't think of a museum 90 years ago- imagine all the props and costumes and movie memorabilia that could have been saved for posterity. Agreed Jordan, not enough stuff!! I loved the costumes but not nearly enough of them. I went on Streisand's 80th birthday and crossed the Barbra Streisand Bridge out onto the outdoor patio with a fantastic view. That for me was the best part. Am with you! Todd Fisher's home museum is the one that I would very much like to visit! (Saw his Mom's collections at her Vegas hotel & again when items went up for auctions at The Paley Center in Beverly Hills. So many of those items are forever gone. Shame on Hollywood for letting them go!)

I loved it here when we visited. I liked how they used memorabilia to tell the story of filmmakers rather than going the Max Factor route of cramming as much memorabilia into the space as possible. I also adored the animation and sci-fi section.

Debbie Reynolds was so ahead of her time. It broke my heart in the documentary when they were talking to her about selling parts of her collection & she didn't want to but had to financially. Every piece meant something to her.

Another fine presentation by you, Jordan. I absolutely agree with your evaluation re the sparse nature of the displays. Hopefully the Academy won't be satisfied with this not-really-adequate arrangement and layout. Todd Fisher definitely could give them some pointers. I've known many people in film who would've set up the items in a fascinating way to please the patrons immensely. But it's almost as though it was put together by people who were detached and didn't love film and film history. It WAS wonderful seeing the Joan Crawford suit from MILDRED PIERCE and finding out what the color is. Never would have guessed that one...LOL! But why not have a costume from Ann Blyth's character, too? She had any number of memorable outfits. Or a suit from Jack Carson? The mostly empty room you show at the beginning and at the end where a large Oscar stands and a few red cushions are scattered about could have housed some huge posters. One for BULLITTwould be great and the museum could get the owner of McQueen's Mustang to loan it for display there in that lobby. The other floors could have exhibits broken up into decades. And as long as I'm being nitpicky, why in the world did they choose such an ugly building entrance design and locate it around the back where The May Comany parking lot used to be? Off Wilshire would have been much better. But that's enough of tearing down. I do so appreciate your taking us along on the journey to see what is displayed. You always make every effort to create an enjoyable video. You're such a darling (I can say that since I'm 80 years old...hahaha!).

FYI..Rita Moreno's black and gold evening gown which she wore to the Oscar's, was custom designed for her by Jose "Pitoy" Moreno a celebrated Filipino couturier who designed for Royalty and celebrities..It's a pleasant surprise to see Mr Moreno's creation displayed in the museum..

We were just there in June. It’s a really good museum to visit especially if you’re into movies. I loved the Wizard of Oz section. It was surreal seeing the ruby red slippers. It was my favorite movie when I was a kid. ❤️

My first impression was like, meh…I don’t know. Indeed Todd’s collection is much more interesting and impressive. What a missed opportunity for this museum; a collaboration would/could have resulted in a truly awesome collection, worthy of $ 25,- but hey, this is only my opinion. It was good to see the difference. This museum strikes me as static whereas Todd’s collection is clearly a labor of love.

This is one thing in L.A., if I ever go there, I can mark off my bucket list to go and see, without walking in there! The Smithsonian and Todd's museum has way more to see. We went in May, and as we were going to leave, underwhelmed, my wife started seeing in her phone that there was supposed to be an Artoo Detoo there. She asked a worker who directed her to go inside this upper floor room and then cross it, and enter through a NARROW hallway. We did, and we found the real payoff for attending. There was Artoo, Threepio, a Terminator prosthetic head, some matte paintings from Batman Returns, some puppets from The Dark Crystal, a spacesuit from 2001 A Space Odyssey, and the real reason I’d went in the first place: the Aries spaceship model, the only surviving model from 2001. Had my wife not asked, I would’ve left completely let down. So if you guys go, be sure to ask about it. It’s terrible that it’s not more obvious!

I have heard it is very hard to start a museum from scratch. Too bad that this one was disappointing. You probably heard about the recent auction by James Comisar. He sold off lots of his TV memorabilia, like sets from Johnny Carson, David Letterman, Cheers, All in the Family, etc. He never got to start a museum.

I think Dorothy’s dress on the right is briefly seen. It is worn by the stand-in who opens the door and we see Munchkinland beyond it. She steps back and is replaced by Judy Garland in the technicolor version dress. It is also seen in one b &w costume test.

Thanks Jordan for satisfying my curiosity on this place. Todd Fisher did a way super better job in showing Debbie’s movie memorabilia than Hollywood. I think Hollywood takes their personal grudges on people a little bit too far sometimes and end up missing many invaluable opportunities in the end to make their tourism even more valuable & appealing. I was at the Academy Museum two weeks after it opened and I felt the same way after seeing it. They really missed an opportunity to display tons of material from movies that everyone wants to see. I thought it was because the museum was brand new when I went, but it's interesting to see that wasn't the case.

Hey Jordan, I know you were disappointed by the museum, but what you filmed was great, I love the clay faces of Clark Gable and Don Cheadle, and I loved the Eddie Murphy clay faces from Dolemite is My Name, also, I just saw Interstellar for the first time last month, it was awesome, great science fiction especially how they made the time travel plot, where Matthew McConaheys daughter was an old lady, when they reunited, she was played by Jessica Chastine in here young adult years,but that is cool they had the astronaut suit he wore, and Brad Pitts, clothes from Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, I love that movie too, Brad Pitt was so funny in that, also you showed those oscar winners gallery, but yeah Sidney Poitier was the first black actor to win best actor for LILLIES IN THE FIELD, and he would remain the only actor to until Denzel Washington won for TRAINING DAY, followed by JAIMIE FOXX for RAY, WILL SMITH WON THIS YEAR FOR KING RICHARD!! Interesting, you also mentioned Hattie Mcdaniel won and she was the first black person to win and acting Oscar, and they said when she won, they had her sitting way in the back of the theater during the ceremony, far away from her GONE WITH THE WIND costars, and she walked up to the stage and accepted her Oscar, but thanks for the video Jordan it was AWESOME

The museum’s emphasis should be from the infancy of silent films to the end of the 1970s. There is too much inclusion and appeasement, but all of that should be saved for a different museum or exclusive to a separate exhibit. This museum does a pitiful job at showcasing the history of tinsel town, in addition to the stars, films, moguls, and filmmakers who made the industry.

It Happened One Night was the first film to win the top 5 Oscars (Best Film, Actor, Actress, Director and Screenplay). The only other two films that repeated this feat are One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and The Silence of the Lambs.

They had a special one night on tv that they said that Hattie McDaniels Oscar is missing they keep it open if they ever find it....last known place was brown college I believe is what they said

The only thing I saw that is worth seeing is the flower dress from Midsommar. I’m not a fan of the Wizard of Oz and don’t recognize most of the other costumes

I remember Debbie Reynolds would be on all the talk shows talking about her collection. It's a shame, she could not get the museum off the ground. She knew it was critical to save all the historical movie items. We're spoiled looking at Todd's collection.
