The push this claim that we are a Christian nation...is difficult at best. There are so many places where it is documented that we claim no specific religion as a nation. The people that traveled here were leaving countries that had state authorized religions so they could practice thier own religion. Not all religions that claim christ are the same. Wars have been fought over this issue. Just type in "factions of Christianity" in your search bar and tell me who's God are we going to choose? Everyone assumes it will be theirs. They need to think things through a little bit. Have we already forgotten that the election of the Catholic JFK was a shock to the system. There are at least 4 Lutheran synods, 3 versions of Catholics that I know of. The list of "Christian" faiths is long and varied and they will not all agree on the same things.

I'm going to say the hard and honest truth. I am from a Southern Baptist family. I was growing up in the 1970's and heard nothing about abortion at church. I did hear a lot about segregation and skirt lengths. That changed with Jerry Falwell's Moral Majority. Skirt lengths were still a big topic but now segregation was replaced by abortion but everyone understood it was code. Falwell had run a segregation academy and was running what was effectively a segregation university. It simply was no longer acceptable, nationally to talk about segregation in public.
