Something that not many people know about Salamanca is that the 'Derecho de Gentes' (the precursor to International Law and the doctrine of Human Rights) was born there, along with modern Economic Science, among other things. A curiosity: Father Mariana, a professor in Salamanca, wrote a book in the 16th century titled 'De rege et regis institutione,' where, for the first time in history, he theoretically justifies tyrannicide, that is, the right to kill the king if his behavior is tyrannical. This is why _Marianne,_ the woman symbol of the French Republic, is named so, in his honor ('Marianne' being the female equivalent name in French to the Spanish''Mariana').

Steven, you are my hero. I was in Salamanca back in 2006, when a friend of mine studied there at the University. Your video brings back so much memories. The few days I spent there were really amazing. In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful cities. Due to my handicap (wheelchair), I can’t travel that much anymore, so seeing your video was really a great pleasure for me. You made my day! I really appreciate your dedication and hard work. Thank you very very much. Greetings from Cologne Germany from another Steven!

Lived and studied in Salamanca for almost 6 years, absolutely miss it already even though I left it about a month ago. Such a cozy yet active little city, so much history and so much beauty, it's just so fun. Can't deny I was checking the people walking on the background throughout the entire video to see if I recognised anybody, or even saw myself, but no luck. I'm actually pretty sure I was inside the building at 34:20 as you walked by, attending my friend's defence of his doctoral dissertation. Also, have to mention that after so many years people still use the clock as the default meet-up spot, and so did I during all those years, some things just never change I suppose. Also also, when you said you wanted a Spanish breakfast, my mind immediately went to Café Unamuno because it was one of my favourite spots te get breakfast when I lived there, and what are the chances that you ended up there! Salamanca is such a special place, glad you were able to experience it, and glad you brought me back with you, even though I just left it.

Great video , Steve! We were in Salamanca 2 years ago. Very sentimental for my husband, as it is the city of his beloved grandfather's birth. His grandfather lived with my husband's family as he grew up, speaking Castilian drinking his shot of sweet vermouth, and telling him stories of his boyhood in the streets of Salamanca. It truly is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. Thank you for helping us re-live a sentimental visit.

I first discovered Salamanca in 2004 as the penultimate stop on a week long 'fly-drive' with Ryanair from Stansted to Valladolid (which also took in Santiago de Compostella). It was July and I stayed in a lovely hotel on the southern edge of the city centre near the river. It was also in the middle of a music festival and the memories of listening to a late-night open-air jazz concert in a square near the Cathedral will stay with me for ever. Fast forward to January 2023 and I was heading through Spain on a motorhome adventure to the south, and I decided to revisit Salamanca. Only difference was, it was a wet, gloomy, very cold Sunday afternoon! However it was still great to have made a return visit. I really enjoyed seeing some of the other parts of the city in your video from your past knowledge and explorations. One place I found that you didn't show was inside the old Cathedral, which has a stunning Apse, and also one of the oldest pipe organ cases in Europe (14th Century?) in a side Chapel. Great city, agreed, and I wouldn't turn down the opportunity for another visit in warmer conditions. |Many thanks for your video.

Loved this video. I admire your enthusiasm for the Spanish language and Salamanca. I too learnt Spanish 24 years ago but unfortunately never got round to going there and due to circumstances may never travel there. BUT THANK YOU FOR THIS

Thanks Steve for sharing your Salamanca memories! Always great to return to a place that meant a lot to you. Lovely city. Your apartment views were great over the plaza, especially in the evening. Pity about the shower! Your food choices were spot on! Very impressed with climbing up all those steps, and with your Spanish! Nice one! 👍

So pleased you ignored the advice never go back, and it was not a disappointment. What a difference it makes Steve with a 'plan', not winging it. Looks a stunning city and wow that apartment as you say great for people watching. More wonderful memories made. Stay safe and warm.

Enhorabuena. Saludos desde Brasil. Estuve en Salamanca en 1989 y nunca volví. Tu video me hizo repensar la idea de regresar a la antigua ciudad estudiantil.

Love that Spanish song Steve! Nice editing with it too. I really appreciate you showing the scenery 9ut the bus window. Maybe I'm weird but I never find that boring. Your Spanish pronunciation is great- made sense when you said you lived there😊

Excellent video. Me and my wife have been accepted for an apartment so this has really cheered me up, especially because our apartment is above that gadis on avenida de Portugal. Move there next month. Will definitely be checking out la parilla, nice one

What a stunning place Salamanca is, so much beautiful architecture in the main square. As much as I love the Costas, this is the real Spain. One for the bucket list.
