No, what most likely happen was the mother was suppose to die in the car accident instead of her so when they killed of the wrong person they try to fix this by having her take over the mother who technically is already consider dead . So they basically let the mother's body be alive for another week while they sorta out the problem with her original body. Once that clear they killed off the mother body also. Since she would be returning to her old one and there would be soul living in the mothers body. In a sense they gave the family basically an extra week or so to enjoy with her mother even if it wasnt actually her.

Basically the mother was supposed to die instead of yeon so yeon's soul replaced the mother's. The mother by that time is in coma when yeon's soul replaced it. So she died technically around the time she was supposed to die and the body lived for one more month. So the family kind of got a bonus month with her body but not her soul. After yeon's soul left the body, body died too.
