I loved that the black screen when you were talking at the end suddenly made me see my own reflection in the screen, I got feeling that I was listening to your words more intently. I really enjoy your insights and reflections.

it's so refreshing to forget about star ratings and reviews and to just watch movies and kinda just let them be for a bit? it opens up new ways of appreciating things. binaries are so limiting. im gonna try and remind myself that life is long, it feels comforting to know that there is time and we should def use it for kindness!

I did not expect to tear up at a video about movies but... the end got me. I turned 18 earlier this year and the only thing I can think is man, you are so right. This is the longest thing I have done and will ever do and it's so crazy how there are so many people and the world is so incredibly vast and there's so much to do and we can only find the happiness in this weird, green-blue-brown floating rock if we're a little kinder to ourselves and to each other. We are so, so breakable. Thanks, Sam.

I’ve had a really rough time recently and this video was really needed. your videos always made me think, and the end of this really put a lot into perspective. thank you however, I think almost everyone would like an explanation.

I set a similar challenge in 2015, watching 365 movies a year (kind of not possible, but I just wanted to push myself to do more of something I love). 2015: 277, 2016: 377, 2017: 273, 2018: 298 (and counting). I share your opinion on opinions, I hate when people ask me "was it good?", I don't know, that's not why I watch this movies. I watch them in order to have a nice time, possibly see something that will stick with me (a scene I can't get out of my head), learn new things... and once a film finishes all I know is whether or not I enjoyed it, which has little to tell about if it was good or bad. I will try to think more about those cases in which I simply didn't liked the movie as you suggested.

On a side note, I keep the lists on IMDb and I like ordering them based on the ratings and metascore and see what the world think are the best and worst films I have seen this year and contrast it with what those movies made me feel

Thank you! This video was something I think I really needed. You talked in such a calm and hopeful way, and I’ve got used to just seeing binary opinions on things and this was so refreshing to see.

This video resonates with me. The way you encourage viewers to take a step back and ask ourselves why is something truly powerful, and not nearly done enough. Life is long, kindness is crucial and movies are about the feels. Thanks for sharing your stuff, Sam. Congrats on the 100 movies a year goal!

so this really took me by surprise? thinking about it it is a very sound and mature way to talk about movies and now the different ways i felt about movies i watched this year make a bit more sense? because if i were to go after criteria of thing good, thing bad, i really liked some bad movies and hated some good movies this year. so thank you for this refreshing perspective on watching films :)

Nice to have your incredibly moderate and generous perspective back, Sam. I find the older I get the harder it is to be kind, like I'm always in defense mode because I've been too naive too many times.... It's kind of the opposite of what I expected growing up. I thought you were supposed to become a better person... Where do you find the strength?

When you mentioned the third person on the moon I shouted “MICHAEL COLLINS”. And I always find it funny that people forget his name because here in Ireland, a lot of people would know his name, because everyone mixes him up with the Irish revolutionary leader called, Michael Collins.

So very true. It’s the conscious intent suffusing our actions that matters most, wether we are a street sweeper or a motion picture maker. Kindness is it’s own reward.

Wow Sam, this video is so well put together! I love this new style, I'm excited to see what you'll make next. ^^ Just a little tip: I found it quite hard to concentrate on what you were saying whilst trying to read the little bits of text on the screen. Maybe it's just me, but it was a bit difficult to take it all in and I genuinly think that you have something insightful to say so I wanted to read and hear everything! :) Maybe try and not sync up voice-over with different pieces of text? I don't know, just a thought! xx
