Yup, it's an actual meaning of being introverted. The latter is just a myth and bs. I love hanging out, just in certain doses. Same extroverts don't mind being alone, but they recharge from being out and talking to people. (Which was always weird to me :D)

Yeah, like I need to recharge alone because my consumption of the world is inwards, like I experience everything from the inside, in my mind, thoughts and images. That doesn't mean I'm going to cry if someone were to talk to me. Or that I don't like people. I just like my headspace more.

I get this too. I don't like to share a lot about myself at work, but I wanted to change that recently. I'm an extrovert and we're not all interested in people, that's just where we feel comfortable or get our energy from. But that also doesn't mean that we dont have any less interests than introverts. I and many other extroverts value our time alone to have one on one time with our interests, hobbies, and ourselves. I like being by myself cause I can take a moment to relax and do things I love, but I also like being around others and doing things with them cause that's where I feel comfortable.

I can fake extroversion really well from years of working with people but I’ve never felt like I ever fit in anywhere. People confuse and disappoint me. "Being different is a gift, not a curse." I really do believe that, but it would be nice if other people would. I've spent most of my life as an introvert, and it's never bothered me I enjoy my alone time. And for the last year or two I feel like I've been able to become little more an extrovert. I've been wierd for as long as I can remember, or at least that's what people tell me. It's never really bothered me, I've actually learned to embrace it, but then recently I started to wonder if that might be the reason not a lot of people want to be friends with me. Because I'm "weird." For like the past year and a half, I've struggled making new friendships, and it made me feel so unwanted. Thing is, is that it's probably just in my head and it might not be because I'm weird. But if it is, why can't they see that being different is alright?

I think introversion and extroversion exist on a spectrum. For example, an extreme extrovert might go crazy if they have to spend even five minutes alone, while an extreme introvert might not even want to come home for Christmas dinner. Personally, I actually like getting together and socializing with close friends once or twice a week, but if I had to socialize every day, I would feel drained. Although I lean towards the introverted side of the spectrum, that doesn’t mean I never want to socialize.

This!! I hate the stereotype that introverts are always quiet and shy and that extroverts are always loud and outgoing. Sure there might actually be some people that fit that but people dont understand that there is a whole spectrum to classify introverts and extroverts. My introverted nature usually shows when I'm with my family or in a new social situation. Im much more outgoing when I'm with my friends and partner than with my family. I self isolate and don't talk about my issues with family. I don't love my family and am unwilling to accept love from them. And thats okay. You can and should be able to choose who you love and are willing to accept love from. Especially if the relationship you have is unhealthy.

I classify myself as an introvert. Why? Because I freaking love my alone time. I do enjoy spending time with friends and family, but being in a quiet place with no one but myself is the thing I find most relaxing. I think it can be harmful for some classifying themselves as an introvert, but not for all people. It all depends on perspective. Some people think "I'm an introvert, I can't be confident and I can't enjoy talking to people". But interesting fact, people who are introverts are actually better (on average, of course) at talking than introverts (once they overcome the fear). In fact, introverts in sales preform better than extroverts in sales (on average). It all depends on how you look at things. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

For the past 2 or 3 weeks. I’ve been trying to be more productive, optimistic, and trying to talk to more people that I see a lot in class. I went to my guidance counselor one day and I told her how I felt like I’m the worst person ever and I felt so lonely because I’ve never been in a relationship before. I had dreams of killing myself and seeing what the outcome will be if I succeeded or not. My guidance counselor told me that therapy will be helpful. She called my mom about it and tbh I’m kinda thankful that she called her because I want to turn my life around. Idk if people call me an introvert but I feel like I am because I don’t really leave my room a lot and I just think of the things that I really want. But thankfully, I have a job at my dad’s pizza restaurant that i wanted to work at and I’ve met people that I really like to talk to at school. Hope all of you have a great day

My introversion comes from a very young age where I couldn't make friends and I didn't know that I had to be LOUD just to get friends(I was already a quite person) my peers never liked me and don't know why, so as a result I believed that everyone doesn't like me even if my family does and I appreciate them but I'm not always around them. I'm an introvert and it's just hard for me to speak to other people because I'm always scared of saying something wrong or bad without noticing it, so I started to talk less in school and in private and I'm always scared of calls because I can't talk over calls which ruined my experience in Vr chat, I got Vr chat because I was interested in it, but I couldn't speak to anyone which then ruined my whole experience with it and I deleted it. - I have a difficulty to have friendships(or any social interaction) because of my defense mechanism that makes me an arrogant, manipulative and very evilish person, just to protect myself of what my Mother done to me when i was younger. - Thanks to my Therapist, i discovered that i have low Empathy and that i'm too egocentrical, and after realizing that, it explained alot of Why i'm such a bad person, arrogant and a little sh*t to everyone that show me any type of Affection(I am actually disgusted by any type of affection because of a Toxic Affection my mother gave me), i have a hard time knowing how other people feel and things related to other people emotions, also making me am Aromantic. - Because of my type of personality and actions since i was 9 years old(i'm 15 now), i've also developed a pleasure seeing people suffering, making it even more harder to me to make any type of Friendship, relationship and anything related to that

A good amount of introverts enjoy more time with media like movies, books, and video games because most of the time it's the only way we can meet someone with a personality that sparks something. Introvert doesn't mean shy, reserved, or calm it's simply someone who recharges their batteries from being alone or with very close friends. contrast to extroverts that recharge from going out/ going to gatherings. There isn't a rule that says an introvert can't have social skills or be out going.

I have been described as an introvert, but I never really thought I fit the description because it's much more complicated than that. I'm a bit cagey and standoffish around people I don't know, but the more comfortable I get with someone, the more friendly, talkative, and even chaotic I become. I was pretty shy during my preteen and teenage years, but I wouldn't have ever classified myself as an introvert. I feel that shyness stemmed from my strange personality and most of all, my weight. I was very fat back then and knew people would often judge me when I went out in public, so I very rarely spoke up. However, I would say around 2014 during my last year of college I met a few people who actually seemed to enjoy my company after they managed to strike up a conversation with me about video games and anime, and manga. From then on I met more and more people and over time I let out more of my true self. I didn't feel restricted and instead, free. I figured if people liked me for me they'd show it, and if not, I'd know it. Nowadays I love interacting with others. When hanging out at my local Gamestop I'll often stop and talk with my friends who are employees there, and even chat with some of the customers. I guess what I'm saying is: don't think everyone's out there to judge you. Sure, some will think negatively of you without having an actual conversation, but even more are willing to give you a chance. And if they do, don't hide yourself. Allow your true personality out and show them the real you, even if it is a little weird like myself. :)

Introversion vs extroversion is where you get your energy vs what exhausts you. Extroverts are exhausted by being alone, and get energized being in a group. Introverts are exhausted by peopleing and energized by "self time". This is all it realy is.

On the other hand, let's not forget that alone time is important. I live with roommates and it took a while for them to understand that I was not avoiding them, but that in my intimacy, at home, I'd rather do my own thing away from everyone. To be fair, there was a hard time in my life, maybe a 1 or 2 year period where my career choices were making me miserable, but I was not wiling to admit it, so I trully became avoidant, bitter and hostile and I do admit that getting out of this period gave everyone of us perspective. Out of this, my roommates understood that even after making better choices, balancing my life and becoming a more stable and happy person, I still like to spend time alone the most when I am at home and from my perspective, I understood that I shouldn't be avoidant of the people I live with.

The paradox of introverts/extroverts as I've heard it define, based on where a person regains their mental stamina based on social environment. You can be an introvert but very socially active, you can be an extroverted, but be very anti-social. As I've come to understand it, introverts use alone time to regain energy, whereas extroverts use socializing to regain energy, both are very flexible terms in that sense which makes a heck of a lot more sense. So in that sense it accounts for introverts wanting socializing, but extroverts also want alone time too.

Love the video! It gives a lot of great reasons as to why everyone should lean into both introversion and extroversion regardless of which they naturally lean towards. I like to define an introvert as someone who naturally gains energy when they are alone. An extrovert is someone who naturally gains energy when they are with other people. Too much of a good thing is usually a bad thing, though. If an introvert spends too much time alone (whatever that means for that individual), they can become isolated and lonely. If an extrovert spends too much time around people, then they can fail to learn how to sit with themselves and become codependent. Every individual can benefit from learning their own healthy balancing point between the two extremes.

i love the emphasis on how not everyone is like this or that i like calling myself an introvert because it just generally describes myself in the way that im a quiet and reserved person who prefers to stay alone, so others can get an idea on how NOT to treat me (even though most extroverts still try to force me out of my comfort zone) if a wrong generalization of my personality is enough for people who dont want to understand my way of being to avoid me or anything like that, then thank god for its existence

I think people around me think I don't want to talk or that I don't want parties or to go out or anything but they never ask me so I don't have a choice, sometimes it feels like people's attempts to understand me are where they fail to get me the most.

Being called an Introvert had a negative connotation, even when you call yourself an introvert it still has that negative connetation. I would like to try to see myself in a more positive way like I'm unique, I'm content with small things around me, I don't need a big group of friends to have fun because I can enjoy my own company. I want to live my life free of feeling different even though I am different but I don't want that feeling of being different to have a negative connotation on my life, that's why I would rather be called unique. Even if I look lonely or don't talk to a lot of people, that is my choice, that is part of who I am and my personality. At the end of the day, people who think that me being different is weird miss out on making a new friend who they could or could not enjoy. But life shouldn't be spent worrying about what people care about you. It's about enjoying who you are and what you want to do and having the freedom to chase the pursuit of happiness.

My anxiety and sensitivity to the environment make it necessary for me to have a alone time to decompress, but I think at heart I I'm an extrovert. Being with other people fuels my imagination, and when I moved out I quickly discovered that I got anywhere from bored to on the verge of panic when I was by myself so I got a cat. I don't really like the introvert versus extrovert divide either, but sometimes we have to look at why we label ourselves in certain ways to understand ourselves. Anxiety, for example, shouldn't define whether or not we are an introvert or extrovert.

Any label is just a simplification of reality to make it easier to understand but it may not necessarily be true. Instead of labeling yourself as introvert or extrovert, just act like you want at the moment. It's not your responsibility to act like something you're not

0:32 its weird because im not an introvert all of the time. I enjoy being alone sure, but I can find being alone just as draining as being with too many people. I need some friends, just not for too long or too much. A happy medium. But also im more likely to be socially outgoing with some form of annonimity. On the internet in a social app like VR Chat, I can much more easily approach people and make friends than in real life.

I wish these conversations/comments weren't introvert vs. extrovert. An I wish ambiverts such as myself weren't left out of the conversation completely. There are those of us who are both, who see, understand, appreciate, and enjoy all of the above. It's always interesting to me that introverts are seen as different or aloof and extroverts are seen as confident and the life of the party. Yet, it's never considered that inside of one person can be all those things at different times for different reasons. To me the biggest difference between introverts and extroverts is one is generally more quiet than the other and it takes more time to get to know them because of it. Neither one is better than the other. Being able to do both gives me perspective and the ability to deal with and flow between people.

I enjoy my time alone. I think sometimes social interaction is really draining and I can only take it in doses. I don't have many friends and honestly I am happy with that. I appreciate the few I have now along side my family.
