I was a bartender at a high-end restaurant in New Orleans in the late 90's. Roger Moore and his wife dined there one day. He was always my favorite Bond. He was very nice. After he ordered a champagne drink, I took it upon myself to go to his table with a Martini, shaken not stirred of course. He was taken aback and said, "but I did not order this." I told him that it was on the house and that I couldn't let James Bond come in y place and not serve him a Martini. He was very appreciative. He came by the bar after and we had a wonderful conversation. He was a class act all the way. Just what you'd expect from Bond.

First of all, I don't give a damn how old Sir Roger Moore was when he filmed 'A View To A Kill'. He is my favorite Bond and the only Bond I grew attached to as a young kid in the late 70's to 1985. I didn't get to see any of the Bond films at the theaters. But on the ABC Sunday Night Movies Of The Week, the Bond films would always come on there and it was a must see TV event. When they'd show a Sean Connery Bond film or George Lazenby's 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', I'd be like as a kid "Who are these guys?" "Where's my favorite Roger Moore?" So why did Sir Roger Moore become my favorite Bond? Well, for sort of superficial reasons. I thought for a man and a spy he was very good looking, charming and witty. I thought he looked so cool and commanding when he put on his Commander Bond uniform in 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. And the ultimate reason why he became my favorite Bond: When he took Barbara Bach underwater in that white Lotus Esprit and turned it into a mini submarine with rockets and smoke screens, that was it! I thought that was the coolest and most badass thing ever as a kid! Make no mistake about it, Sean Connery is the ultimate Bond. He set the standard and the stakes. Sometime in the early 90's I revisited Sean Connery's Bond films and 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. I enjoyed George Lazenby's version of Bond and he gets a bad rap. Timothy Dalton was intense, gritty and brilliant as Bond. In my opinion he had more charisma and charm than Daniel Craig in any of his more recent films as Bond. And I like Daniel Craig. Pierce Brosnan was like Roger Moore 2.0, younger, charming, witty, sensual and more physical than Roger Moore. Daniel Craig in his first outing in Casino Royal was like a bulldog. Intense, physical, brutal and direct. I've taken something positive from every Bond. But for sentimental reasons, Sir Roger Moore is my personal favorite.
@earlspencer78634 жыл бұрын
Well said and a good summary of the strengths of each actor. you should read the original novels to get an understanding of the original character and why the writers decided to portray Craig as the darkest version of Bond. In my view taking away some of the humor and wit damaged the character, not to mention the dismal writing of specter and QOS.

Although Octopussy had been released 1983, I can't help but still feel a certain 70s feeling like Spy who loved me when seeing it (not that it is a bad thing, Moores Bond always was a child of the 70s). It's hard to describe, it's just a feeling. The Dalton movies already went into the more grittier tone (especially Licence to Kill), more suitable for the late 80s and beginning 90s. The simple careless fun of the 80s definitely reached its top with AVTAK :-)

So I've been reading about the Bond films, and this film's villain's evil plot is apparently basically Goldfinger's, but with microchips in place of gold. Like Oliver Harper said, Bond movies typically don't try to re-invent the wheel, and to be fair when a new movie is out every few years it's understandable plots will be reused, especially when most people watch Bond movies for the action scenes over all else. If only Disney didn't view Star Wars in a similar way.
@KevinT11494 жыл бұрын
It’s interesting to note that Pierce Brosnan’s Everything or Nothing (The video game considered Brosnan’s fifth outing as Bond.) that it’s sort of a sequel to View to a Kill. The main villain William Defoe plays Diavolo was a protégé to Zorin (who hired Jaws as his henchman). The story was similar where Diavolo took the idea of the microchips from Zorin and mixed it with modern technology with nanotechnology. Considering the reception of this movie I found it interesting they took the direction they did with Everything or Nothing as being a semi sequel to View to a Kill which is very uncommon (before the Craig movies) to see direct references to previous stories (with the exception of Jaws who appears a few times). But to get a story that throws back to a villain that wasn’t apart of spectre and that wasn’t that warmly recieved got me to enjoy A View to a Kill much more. I also think Everything or Nothing was one of the better non Fleming Bond stories out there. If your a fan of Bond not into video games really or one of the few who really enjoyed this movie I recommend finding the game on youtube or finding a copy to play which is much better and check it out.

I remember seeing a picture of Pierce Brosnan in ‘007 magazine’ it was 1986 and he was at Pinewood studios with a “Living Daylights” clapperboard in his hands. That is how close he was to actually filming, but because of the buzz around his casting as James Bond viewing figures for Brosnan’s tv show ‘Remington Steele’ improved even though the series had been cancelled, as Brosnan himself says in the EON documentary, his contract had a 30 day renewal option, and on the 30th day the tv producers decided to capitalise on the Bond publicity and make one more series, which screwed Brosnan and the next Bond film. There is a screen test for Sam Neill as Bond on the ‘Daylights’ DVD but as we all know, the role went to Dalton, who I think would have grown into the role had he done more than two. (Unlike Daniel Craig, who is a terrific actor, but seems ill at ease as 007, even after 4 films......and when we’ll get to see the 5th is anyone’s guess?)

5:15 AVTK being on the "worst of the year" list? That is insane! The movie is far from perfect and it is by far the weakest of the John Glen-directed Bond flicks but is falls squarely into the "okay but forgettable" range. It's not even close to being one of the worst movies ever.

In an alternate universe, Max Zorin was the nephew of WW2 era successful young businessman from east Europe. He was born in Germany the late 1930's during the rise of Nazi movement. Growing up in Europe during WW2 made him a smart and almost ruthless person in everything that he did. He was extremely intelligent and eventually ended up studying engineering in the 1950's and worked for various companies and even the German government for a time. His uncle inspired him to go into to business for himself and so he sought to start his own computing company by the early 1960's. One of the first projects Max and his company worked on was researching schematics for a storage facility in the United States that his uncle was looking to purchase. Max didn't know all of the details about the project, but he did see a document that referred to it as "Operation Grand Slam". During the project, his uncle died in a plane crash according the U.S. officials, however Max was suspicious of the incident and grew to despise the American government. This and his unusually high intellect captured the attention of officials from the Soviet Union who recruited him to serve as a partner with the KGB. Max continued to grow his company over the next 20 years while also working with the KGB. During his time with the KGB he befriended many agents and made many business contacts including Steve Jobs and Elliot Carver. Max entered into the microcomputer industry in the early 1980's with his company Zorin Industries and was quickly becoming a strong company. However, rumblings of his dealings with the Soviet Union left him seen as an outcast to the American microchip industry. Growing increasingly radical, like his uncle, he began working on a new project in America. Working with KGB agents, his project was developed to be a main strike against his American competitors and allow his company to rise to the top. Unfortunately, during the project, Max was killed in an aircraft incident like his uncle and the project was never able to come into view to the world. One of Max's earliest business colleagues grew large in the media industry and by the mid 1990's was running a large independent media outlet. While he was working on a large scale satellite launching project, he died in a boating accident in the South China Sea in the late 1990's under mysterious circumstances. With many of Max's original early business partners seeing similar fates, several of them conspired together create a super-organization to fight against injustices in the world including oil production wars in western Asia, water rights in South America, and government espionage in Great Britain.

Moore was the best ambassador for James Bond offscreen, never saying a bad word in public. Unlike the eastern bloc actor playing the role at present . This film is certainly not the worst in the series, the world is not enough/no time to die/quantum of solace would be much better candidates for that award.

The only elements shared by this movie and its source material/shor story: the male protagonist, one locale (France), and most of title. Ahg! In the story, 007 meets with a female partner, who is well-portrayed. They lie in wait in some woods and nab some villains riding a motorbike. At least Michael Wilson could've thrown in those scenes to humour Flemming readers. I like John Barry's symphonic arrangement and the low-tech fight at the end (man vs man with axe).

yortzandat how would you know what led me to my opinion...? It's boring, has a weak villain and literally nothing memorable about it.

Qos has a dull and uninteresting villain and plot, not to mention the theme song which is awful. Craig is good in the movie but as a continuation of casino royale it is rather poor. I think it is easy to see why it is often regarded as a bad bond film
@garyambrosini14274 жыл бұрын
@yortzandat you say that qos has all the bond elements. The bond girl, villain and plot are all totally forgettable. The theme song is rubbish, not to mention the fact that the bond theme is hardly used in this movie (although it is like that in all the Craig films) and the action sequences make use of too much shaky cam, influenced by the Bourne movies. If you think qos is great that's absolutely fine, but I certainly don't think that the criticism of the film is to do with woke politics
