Hello Darlings, it's only 1 week until Christmas!! This video was meant to be up a week ago but I was too exhausted from nursing placement and needed some time to chip away at it haha. I hope you enjoy this little weekend Christmas day in the life!! Have a happy holiday and a lovely new year! ❤️

Growing up in the 1950s, we lived in a house with cathedral ceilings. Therefore my dad would always get a 7ft live tree. After he put up the lights, with many of them being bubbled lights, my mom would then spend hours putting up the ornaments and tensile. It was quite a project putting up the tree and keeping it hydrated so it would not dry out. My aunt had an artificial silver tree with all blue ornaments and with a colored pinwheel at the base of the tree, which changed the color of the tree different colors as the pinwheel rotated. That was indeed a different kind of tree. It was actually pretty popular for the mid to late 1950s. My mom made handmade stockings which I still have mine 70 years later. Over the years, the only change to the stocking was Santa's beard as the original started to turn yellow.

@@seattlegirl2077 Almost everyone I know, especially those who had real Christmas trees in the 50s and 60s were big on tensile. The only one I know of who was not into tensile was my aunt who had a silver tree with blue ornaments and a colored pinwheel

@@davidjones5547 Interesting. Growing up in Seattle, I can't remember a neighbor's tree that had it. It might be a west coast thing, but most of my neighbors had moved out west for Boeing after WWII as did my family. Although the one photo I have from my parents from the 1930s in Terre Haute Indiana did have it but I don't know it had lights. My mother born in 1912 remembered lit candles on her early Christmas trees!

Just a tip for the people with artificial trees, if you get garland that either matches or is close to your tree you can wrap it loosely around the inside. It makes the tree look fuller. Just something I learned with having an artificial tree (my cats are rude and think live trees are evil).

This was charming. Proof-positive that vintage Christmas celebrations are, without doubt, far more endearing than the overtly commercial Yuletide holidays that (we) now experience. I grew up in the early '70's, & whilst not exactly as one might recall from the '40's or '50's, it was close enough to be reminiscent of that era - wonderful !

Love the wreath… I decorated our tree with my grandma’s ornaments this year. There was a spool of silver tinsel garland that is probably older than I am (58) . I don’t ever use garland on the tree so decided to repurpose it into something I could/would use… As luck would have it, there were 2 perfectly even strands of it. I wrapped 2 wreath forms and made 2 very mid-century modern wreaths with it. One for me & one for mom (her mother’s decorations). Not my moms style, but I think it made her feel good to have it & they are both hanging on our front doors.

Just found this video, Sage, even though it's a year old now. I was a kid in the late 50's and 60's, and so much of your decor reminds me of the Christmas magic I remember from my youth. The bubble lights, tree ornaments, and tinsel are so nostalgic to me, and I've kept that decor and our old traditions to make memories for my own kids and grandkids. The only thing I've changed is going from an actual cut pine tree to an artificial one -- I hate seeing trees grown just to be used for a couple of weeks and then discarded. Merry Christmas to you and James!

We also found out that artificial trees aren't strong enough to support a heavier tree topper. What we did to fix this was take a thicker gauge covered floral wire stem, make a loop in the center that sits just above the top of the tree and wind the rest down the vertical top stem/trunk till it's sturdy. Now our little 4 ft artificial tree has no problem supporting a heavy vintage star.

How lovely! I will use your ideas for livening up my mantel garland for next year. One thing I have done in the past so that my really cool star, which is rather heavy, would stay on the top of my tree without drooping is I took that top stem and folded it double. That gave it more stability and it did hold up my star. That might work for your angel. Thanks again for all your beautiful videos! They always make my day!

Oh Sage, I just have to say that I absolutely love the way this video is filmed especially the scene where you went into your garden to say good night to the chickens, i love how casual it is, for some reason it gives me a lot of nostalgia ☺️ Merry Christmas!

You always have such lovely dresses. But that floral print from your sister is just the best. It's beautiful. Thank you for another charming and entertaining video. Also, to fix your angel problem just double over that piece you were trying to put it on. It shortens it and makes it thicker and sturdier. Merry Christmas.

How lovely! ❤️ I haven't seen tinsel on a tree before, but your's is gorgeous. Also, your part of Australia seems to have a similar climate to the Eastern Seaboard of USA. All that green. 😍 Overall, absolutely delightful. Merry Christmas, Sage. 🎄
