Beautiful story collapsed into just 8 minutes. The market and your cooking brought tears of nostalgia to my eyes. I lived in France for three years in the '80s, and I remember the characters who ran the market stands: ALLEZ Messieurs Dames! I remember saving up my little coins to give exact change. I remember fruits that looked like fruits. What a wonderful meal you made. Thank you so much for going to the trouble to make the film.

France in the '80s another France. An expresso in the Maxim's 1 franc, normally 0,25 francs. But at least I went to Maxim's. Nobody spoke english or wanted to understand it.I always tried to speak in french,but they scored at me . Later in the 2000's with a unlimited credit card, they where more sympathetic, even as I gave up trying to speak french, English or Spanish (I'm Chilean). My best memory is when I went to La Madelienne, there was a shop that was closed, but inside was still the lady owner. Incredibly she let me in and I made my shopping with signs, one finger or two for each item, while we both spoke,she in French and I in Spanish or English.They where gifts for my children. I still keep a Tin-Tin watch I bought there. Now that I am older, I have learned that Tin-Tin is not French (the comics where in french) but a Belgian comic. I still longer the smell of fresh baked baguettes in the morning, with butter and "cafe ou lait". Tourism is not a substitute of reality, Vive La France and our memories.

I'm Japanese/Chinese and I love how you're using furikake and Korean spices. It's something we do a lot at home, like adding dashi (dried fish flavoring I think?) to everything. I always feel so odd using my asian flavorings in western cooking, but it's what I know and sometimes it just adds a little something to really elevate the flavors in the dish.
@franciscozahradnik80406 жыл бұрын
mochabubble, americans corrupt everything , even food. French cooking has NOTHING in common with Japanese food. No seaweed, no dashi, no sesame seed, etc...they are not interested in other cultures.

Wow that dish looks amazing David! My mom is a great chef as a hobbie and studied here in Argentina for two years. She is a big fan of France food, specially the raw materials. This dish looks spectacular and I am going to cook it for her :) And then tell her I got inspired from the place she loves so much. I got here because in January I will visit Paris with my Dad and Sister and I am searching for places to visit, to eat... I have this deep feeling that I wish my Mom could go this time with us, but it is not possible. I wish I could go to Paris with her one day and I know she will enjoy everything so much, specially eating delicious French gourmet and descovering flavours. Thank you for this video, I love to eat and I am learning to cook, Michelle

I'm eating my Big Mac... and I'm in tears. I miss Paris sooo much. "I'll take 3 crescents with butter please.." Hey.. I understood him. I never took French in school. I wanted to go to Paris so bad that I studied on my own and I always got a smile when I tried to speak. I think it's because the French must think that my speaking French with an American accent is sexy.. (not?) After the third day, the lady at the hotel would give me a stern look and dangle the key in my face and forced me to say Trente-Huit. After I did we became the best of friends.
@shortgrey10858 жыл бұрын
haha. I hope you'll be able to come back. But you know France is not just Paris. For example, I'm from Paris originally but now I live in Angoulême and people are a lot friendlier, the food in general is better (smaller bakerie ect..) So next time you come to France, why wouldn't you visit Amboise, Angoulême, Agen, Perpignan. These are all great cities, a lot smaller than Paris, and where you can enjoy old french architecture, french food, talk to french people and...honestly avoid rush-hours, stress, pollution and tourist traps. Greetings my friend. Alfred.

David, I love how you went to the bakery first! I would’ve sat down and enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee with it. I love that culture of shopping from local roots and then you prepared everything from scratch! Can you please share your pie recipe?! Looks delicious and I want to try to make it in a cast iron pan. Using cast iron is something I recently started doing. Thanks for the video. Hope to see more!

Fun clip. The Paris greenmarkets are "tourist priced" but there's one good one in Paris in the North of the city, still in Paris. I recommend going just over the Paris border, which is very easy via tramway, bus or metro, to places such as Stains or Saint-Denis for their markets. Stains is deplorable but the market practically gives great stuff away (poor area). The French tend to have very light, simple dinners during the week when not on vacation, so things even out as far as indulgence in the food area. Uprated -- this video has many good qualities.
