I genuinely love this collaboration. I've been following both Jim and Linda for years and years. As a landscape designer in Oklahoma myself, this was a lot of fun to watch and very helpful. I agree with Linda's description that the range of plant material we can confidently use is shrinking. As a professional who has a warranty to honor, that constraint is even harder. There are plants in this video that I've used for nearly 20 years that I've recently had to start adding an asterisk to when I describe them to my customers.

You two are the freaking best! The bit at the end about showing grace with plant pronunciation was so endearing! Of all the things that humans have to argue about these days, I have fallen in love with the commonality I’ve been able to find with people who just love and want to learn more about plants. To put an unnecessary importance on pronunciation would totally close some doors I am getting so much joy from opening! ❤ Love love love it!

With a yard almost entirely part shade to full shade, I have learned that chartreuse, lime green colors really show up beautifully in the shade. Limelight plectranthus has become a staple for me. It’s always fun to see favorite KZbin gardeners together. 💚

Good tips! I'm a true green lover. I don't want black, purple, red and chartreuse, but you make a good point that true green is so dark that there's nothing to show that it's there from a distance unless you have a contrast. Lesson learned.

I’m in S.F. and while we have a narrow temperature range, we also have challenges. Living in a city where houses sit side by side, long shadows are cast by these buildings. We also have fog for many days on end from the bay. So between the shade provided by the buildings and the fog, my garden is at best part sun, but mostly part shade to shade. That limits the types of plants that will thrive in my garden. Having said all that, it’s still a joy to be able to garden year round!

I am starting to realize that Oklahoma and the Piedmont of North Carolina have similar weather extremes. I have started to order plants from a nursery in OK, Sooner Plant Farms. I figure that if the plants can make it there they can make it in Durham, NC. I learned this from watching Linda's channel and Garden Answer on KZbin. Their weather swings might be even wilder than ours. Linda's gardens and home are wonderful!

I’d love to see her walking around your garden. As for limited plants we can grow in Oklahoma. When I read a plant tag that says full sun I know it does not mean Oklahoma sun. In my new beds I am creating in my backyard I can say if I could do only shade gardens I would be happy. So hard to grow things in full sun here in OKC.

Linda is so right when she says “everything here (Oklahoma) wants morning sun & afternoon shade” which is why I struggle so much. My yard is in full day sun & full force wind, next to a field of Bermuda grass & a moat and too narrow for shade trees. Always a dilemma. So what grows? Right? Anything that can grow between zones 5 and 9 and can handle floods, 65 mph winds & severe drought. LOL. Truly. 😢

Fun fact, the Dragon Prince Cryptomeria lasts longer than anything in wet floral foam for cut greenery arrangements. I had some that stayed nice after the arrangement had hit the compost pile! Nice collaboration you guys!
