Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL), Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) - Joint stability during side movements 4. Do you fully appreciate what "billions of years" means? It is an unfathomable amount of time, over which trillions of tiny incremental changes to DNA added up to create a complex tree of life. It is a beautiful thing. We are also not very good at DNA manipulation, but advancements are being made in this space (GMOs). There is also AI of course, which may soon join us in presenting an illusion of consciousness. On consciousness itself, it is an emergent property of a sufficiently complex nervous system. There is nothing special about it from a biological point of view, and no reason it could not emerge from billions of years of evolution.
