If you come from a bigger city and have spent your childhood in manglore or been there for summer vacations ,it is nostalgic.. and udupi, karkala are generally considered as manglore itself.

@@shreyas4980 No it is not considered Mangaluru, I see people from even Kundapura introduce themselves as they're from Mangaluru in B'lur & it is hilarious when I ask them what part of Kudla they're from & they get caught red handed & say they're actually from Byndoor or somewhere like that 🤣

The story of Udupi is the story of Kerala A slow, silent slipping away of vintage culture into the vast ocean of times gone by. Kripal has gamely continued to relate his childhood days despite being choked by emotion. God bless him and keep him.

The moment we cross Shiradi Ghat.. Everything changes. Homecoming is an unexplainable joyful feeling. I would have to cross 8 different rivers on road before I reach my house in one of the river islands in Udupi. Udupi and Mangalore are urbanising very fast but they still retain that old world charm to certain extent. Thank you for this video

Dear Kripal, I am from Udupi. Most people do not have any idea as to the importance of the Bassel mission church that you showed. The church was built in 1850's. Earlier, the Taluk headquarters of the present Udupi talk was located in the town of Kalliyanpur, about 7 Km north. It was shifted over to Udupi in 1875 or 1876. Kallyanpur, as you are aware, was a stronghold of catholics. Kallyanpur has two large catholic churches and the Milgris institutions. The British, being protestants is one of the main reasons that they shifted the HQ from there to the protestant hub at Udupi. This allowed Udupi to grow into the small city it is now. Further, it became district HQ, when a revenue district was created. Even this space was snapped by it from Kundapur. In the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, it was Kundapur that housed the Assistant district commissioner's office. Kundpur was the second most important seat of government administration of the undivided district. Regards,

Bird calls , the smell humid salty but crisp air, the russle of leaves , the sound of water trickling down a canal induced with chirpping of crickets , the view of green canvas, the taste of stolen mangos , sweat from every pore in the body . My summer holidays at my home will stay with me to the grave. My home , my Udupi.

"Somewhere in this evolution from a large family to smaller, nuclear families, we've built walls that are too high to climb (over) or too wide for relationships to seep across, I think that's the tragic irony of life" - a very philosophical Kripal we see today, no doubt nostalgically softened by an unexpected return to his childhood days. Very touching. Hope we viewers get the message.

I remember the first time I looked up my grandparent's old house ( 🇸🇬 )on Google Maps. It was a trip down memory lane as I saw the familiar exterior that hadn't changed much since my dad sold it nearly two decades ago. It was like stepping back in time as I virtually revisited the neighbourhood where I grew up. Thank you, Amigo, for sharing your heartfelt childhood story and taking us on a virtual journey through your old neighbourhood. There's something special about strolling through the streets of your childhood, reminiscing about the good times and feeling a wave of nostalgia wash over you. Take care, stay safe and happy!

Hi Kripal Amana ji Such a nice blog. Far removed from the usual food review blog ( which has established a benchmark in the plethora of food blogs domain ) . Your short walk was indeed a walk down memory lane ( the by lanes and small narrow lanes moth withstanding ) . For me it was a unique blog and will appeal to anybody who attaches importance to nature , the evolving times , the concept of joint family systems of the years gone by or the times of our grand parents when that era was truly grand , to the present era of nuclear families, as rightly mentioned by you . Nevertheless, to a non believer of fine culture this blog maybe not much , but to some like me at least, it was a fine experience. About Udupi itself - during my younger days I used to visit Udupi often and would visit Diana religiously for their veg Cutlets and Gadbad ice cream. So also Mitra Samaj for snacks and meals ( they had two separate hotels for each opposite to each other. Their Vada, Goli bhaje and Tuppa Dose was marvellous ( Tuppa dose in Mangalore’s Taj Mahal is numerous uno ). In the evenings there was a small shop offering ‘ Podi ‘ ( what we call as bajji ) - mensu, baale kaayi , Gulla ( local brinjal - a delicacy by itself and fanass ) . I too feel like visiting Udupi again and walk down memory lane and eat the items the taste of which is still in my memory . Thanks sir for the nice experience.

Dear Kripal, Thanks for the video, I had no clue you were from Udupi. I was born in Udupi but the family moved out. Our ancestral house is still there next to the old municipal office. Every summer the family would unite in Udupi and a visit to the old Diana and Malpe beach was customary. I now have an apartment near Chandu Maidan, just where you were roaming about. My mon stays there periodically and I visit Udupi at least once a year and walk the streets you were walking in. What a lovely town a complete opposite of Bangalore where I am now in. The Christmas lighting in December at the church you showed in the video is my favorite.

Bunts hotel, opposite Mother of Sorrows church it is not only the oldest surviving hotel but is a class of its own, the dishes served are the stuff of the legends. You should take time when you are next in Udupi and try this place, especially for their Anjal tava fry, mackerel rawa fry, clams sukka and their fish gravy with meals. Simply amazing !!!

Hi Kripal, I was surprised to learn from your vlog that we share a common heritage from the Udupi Basel Mission Church! We've connected on KZbin several times in the past through the comments section. It's been over 5 years since I last visited India, so thank you for taking me on a walk through our hometown streets - it's a journey I've been longing to take again.

Perhaps same feeling expressed in the last few minutes is with anyone who is watching or have watched this episode. The new generation has not seen joint families and the big houses with very few amenities but lots of joy, hence they do not feel the same as we do.

@KripalAmannaVlogs Beautiful vlog!!! Really loved it, felt I was walking those streets with you. I agree coming to Mangalore, Udupi or their surrounding areas is an emotion, especially for a person like me, who has his roots out there. Each time I am here all the stories that I heard from my grand mother and father come alive. I wish you had covered, the landmark 100 year old plus, Eva Lombard Mission Hospital, or Mission High School (The ruins that you mentioned in your vlog, were of the original Mission Hospital, near the Basel Mission Jubilee Church), since generations have either been born there or schooled at these places. Both continue to exist, and serve the community till this day. A special request for you to do a vlog on the Mission Compound Mangalore and its surrounding areas , sometime in future. What with the legacy and history surrounding those places, like the Mission Printing Press, Hebich Technical School, Karnataka Theological College, and other landmarks etc. Once again loved the depth and information that your vlogs provide, in terms of food, travel & history. Thanks again and God bless.

Always relished those moments in Diana when I was doing my PU in MGM college. Their poor korma was excellent those days. 1972. All those goodies in their store was part of our lives.

A walk in the old park, bringing out wonderful beautiful memories of individual good old days that reflects an complete generation of people and culture, once in a while when I walk in the old streets of malleshwaram or Rajajinagar, i wonder myself about how far we have come and how we are, it's saddening at times, but as said it's change that is constant, thank you sir for good old days of past, which made me to dive in past, always wondered why past brings smile on our faces, is it time or is it the whole environment, thanks again sir, let's open up our past to cherish some.
