May i know way not, geogrid and fabric to separate soil from stone?
@Dirtmonkey4 жыл бұрын
geogrid is in the wall. but no fabric to seperate the stone as we dont want that to plug and create hydrostatic hot spots behind the wall. Small micro ruptures in the the soil from swelling and expansion to recollapse which can lead to fissures or wall cavities.

2 Questions: 1 Was the grass where the gravel dumped being removed? If not and that was my yard that I had to run my lawn mower over I would not be a happy camper. 2 Was there an investigation into what made the blocks disintegrate? Could it be something in the soil that will eventually get the new block? Looks like your guys are taking the pains necessary to do the job right. Having employees that take pride in their work is a huge bonus.

Great video, but a few questions, the plate tamper was present but did they use it to compact the gravel or was the block put down on loose gravel? What grade of gravel was used, 0.25-0.75"? The hand tamper was clearly used well. On the old wall, I have seen that crumbling concrete to the point of indistinguishable brick or block from mom & pop suppliers who scrimp on the cement in the mix, who use beach sand containing NaCl salt, and worst of all use sawdust to replace sand or other aggregates!
@jdobad24 жыл бұрын

Great video! Was that a special tool for picking up the blocks or just one of the ones for picking up a bunch of bricks? The crumbling block reminds me of a 7' tall retaining wall my dad built about 50 years ago out of 12" CMUs with 4"x 12"x 16" blocks for the caps and a flight of stairs in the middle of the wall. The two stage snow thrower on the Gravely tractor would blast the snow into the face of the cap block and the the steps would on occasion get treated with rock salt so twice ( once in the 80s and again around 2010) I had to strip off the cap block and the steps and replace them. When we sold the property last year the new owner's landscaper was a mazed the wall was still standing since Dad forgot to put any weep holes in the wall. It mast have really good gravel behind it.

From your experience, how much approx. horizontal space is needed in the bottom area in case the wall is going to be built with the full access from the top area with the limited access from below? I.e. the property line is close to the future wall and assuming the builders have full access to the top and they can dig as much as needed.

Over the last couple of years, I've been replacing the country stone walls around my property with one that are more manicured and while my work doesn't compare to the professional quality that I see in these videos, I find myself looking forward to the next season when I can start building more.
